A Mate That was Lost

Chapter 13

I stayed in Jake’s office with him and just chatted with him about nothing and everything. I was telling him how Derek, Vic, and Kendall woke me up on my 18th birthday when his eyes clouded over. I pause and wait, curious as to who was mindlinking him. When his eyes cleared and he smiled at me.

“Alpha Derek and Victor just left the hospital,” Jake explained. “The doctor had to re-break his nose and reset it since it had started to heal already. Brian said he has a colorful vocabulary.”

I chuckle picturing the kind of words that could have flown from his mouth.

“Yeah,” I said, smiling. “He has the mouth of a sailor. He’s never been good with pain. He can ignore it during a fight when his adrenaline is going but other than that he lets the profanities fly when he get hurt. During my first month at the Blue Moon pack he stubbed his toe and the words that flew from his mouth made me blush.”

Jake raised his eyebrows no doubt trying to figure out what kind of words he let fly.

“Well then,” Jake said, lips twitching. “I see you grew out of it because some of the stuff I hear you say could make a sailor blush. I have heard you sparing and when you lose you go off with a string of curses.”

“I hate losing,” I shrug nonchalantly.

Jake laughs a full belly laugh. My heart skips a beat when I hear his laugh.

“Wow,” Diamond comments. “Who knew a laugh could be so sexy.”

I don’t say anything back and just watch Jake with a smile.

“You should laugh more,” I said.

“I do laugh sometimes,” Jake said, chuckling. “I just haven’t laughed recently. You caught me off guard.”

“Well you should laugh more,” I smile.

“You should smile more,” Jake said, winking. “It makes you even more beautiful. It lights up your face and makes your eyes twinkle.

His words make me blush and my smile widens. After that we just sit quietly staring at each other. 

“I should do some work,” Jake said, breaking the silence.

“Oh,” I said, a little disappointed. “Do you want me to leave?”

“No,” Jake said, quickly. “I wouldn’t mind the company while I do some parework.”

I smile and get up from the chair. I look around his office while he turns his attention to the pile of paperwork on his desk. I spotted a bookshelf. I walk over to it scanning the books. A particular book catches my eye. I pick it up and turn to Jake holding it up.

“Eat, Pray, Love,” I ask, raising a brow.

Jake’s head snaps up to look at me, his cheeks reddening.

“Uhhh…,” he stutters. “After I did what I did to you I realized I needed to change. I saw it in a bookstore and I remember you reading the book and I was curious. So I bought it and read it. I was surprised at how much I liked it.”

He shrugs, his cheeks getting redder. I giggle and walk over to the couch in his office and plop down with the book. Jake watches me a little before going back to his paperwork.

I must have fallen asleep because before I knew it, Jake was gently shaking me awake.

“Lani,” he said, softly. “It’s time to go to bed.”

I growl and open my eyes slowly. Jake is grinning down at me. I glare up at him which just makes him grin more.

“f**k off,” I growl. 

As I close my eyes my stock rumbles and it sounds like thunder.

“Let’s go get some food first,” Jake said, chuckling.

I open my eyes and sit up slowly. I yawn and stretch my arms up causing my shirt to pull up showing off a bit of stomach. Jake is staring at the skin that is showing, hunger clear in his eyes. He licks his lips and I blush, putting my arms down and pulling my shirt back down. Jake’s eyes slowly come up to my eyes and he licks his lips.

“We can always stay here and I can devour you,” Jake purrs, seductively.

I gulp and blush even more.

“I’m hungry, too,” I said.

“Fine,” he sighs. “Let’s go to the kitchen and get some food.”

I nod my head and he gets up and walks down to the kitchen. I get up and follow him down. The way he eyed me when I stretched is still fresh in my mind. I’m getting wet as I think about what he could have been thinking about.

Jake’s POV

I walk to the kitchen and feel Lani behind me. All of a sudden I can smell her arousal and I turn to look at her. She looks at me and I smirk letting her know I can smell how turned on she is and she blushes, quickly looking away. I chuckle and continue on to the kitchen.

We arrive at the kitchen and I go straight to the fridge and open it.

“What are you in the mood for, babe,” I said, casually peering into the fridge.

“Did you just call me ‘babe’,” Lani asks, surprised.

I look over my shoulder and grin at her. 

“I did,” I said, looking back into the fridge. “Now, what are you in the mood for? There is a pound of hamburger meat, some chicken, and a couple of steaks.”

“Hmm…,” she said. “How about a nice steak with mashed potatoes and green beans.”

“Alright,” I said, nodding.

I grab the necessary ingredients for the meal she requested. I feel her behind me.

“Do you need any help,” she asks.

“Nope,” I said, shaking my head. “Just have a seat and let me cook for you.”

“I didn’t know you could cook,” she said.

She walks over to the bar and sits, watching me as I prepare everything.

“There’s a lot you don’t know about me,” I said, smiling. “I can cook rather well. I can also sing and dance. I am currently teaching myself the guitar, as well.”

Her eyes widen when I tell her some of the things I can do.I cut the stove on turning it to 375 and let it preheat then I wash the potatoes and cut them up, putting them into a pot, and filling the pot up with water. I put the pot on the stove and prepare another pan and put some olive oil in the pan and turn the stove eye on medium and let it warm while I prepare the steaks. I grab some seasoning and when I hear the oil start to sizzle I put a steak into the pan and listen to it sizzle after about a minute, I flip the steak and season the already cooked side.

After about another minute I take the steak out of the pan and flip it into another pan and season the other side. I repeat everything with the other steaks and by the time I am done the stove beeps signaling that it is ready. I put the green beans into the pan with the steaks and then put the pan into the oven.

  I turn my attention to the potatoes and I grab a fork and start poking the potatoes and when I am satisfied that they are soft enough I drain the potatoes and go grab the butter, milk, and sour cream from the fridge. I put the drained potatoes back into the pot and dump a spoonful of butter onto them. Then pour some milk and another spoonful of sour cream. When I am done I put the stuff back in the fridge Then I begin to mash the potatoes, mixing everything together. When I am satisfied with the potatoes I turn to see Lani staring at me with wide eyes.

“What,” I ask.

“You really know what you are doing,” she muses.

“Well yeah,” I shrug. “Maria taught me how to cook.”

She nods her head in understanding. I turn back to the stove and pull out the steaks and green beans. I try a green bean and nod my head in approval and then cut into a steak. When I see they are cooked perfectly I plate everything and turn back to Lani. I put a pleat in front of her and sat down with my own plate next to her. I look at her and see she is practically drooling. 

I smirk knowing my plan to woo her with my cooking skills have worked.

Lani’s POV

I stare at the delicious looking food. I take a big whiff and salivate at how good it smells.

“Why don’t you try it or do you want me to leave you two alone,” Jake said chuckling.

I snap out of it and cut into the steak. It cuts like butter and I bring the fork into my mouth. As soon as the steak hits my tongue my mouth is exploding with flavor and I moan at how good it tastes. I try the potatoes and green beans next and have the same reaction. The food is so good I almost orgasm right then and there.

“How is it,” Jake asks, eating his own food.

“It is the best thing I have ever had,” I moan.

He chuckles and we continue to eat in silence. After we eat, I help him with the dishes which ends up in a water war. When we are done we both are drenched and laughing.

Jake and I walk to my room hand in hand. When we get to my door I turn to Jake and smile.

“Thank you for today,” I said, blushing. “I had a really good time.”

“No problem,” Jake murmurs.

Jake reaches up and tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. His eyes find mine and I can see desire and longing in his green depths. My heartbeat quickens and my eyes drop to his lips. I don’t know who moved first, but next thing I know is his lips on mine. His tongue grazes my bottom lip begging for entrance. I open my mouth and let him enter. Our tongues are wrestling for dominance. I finally give in letting Jake’s tongue explore my mouth and he moans like he’s in heaven. If Jake reacts like this just from a kiss, I can’t wait to see how he reacts when we finally mate.

Jake backs me up against the door and grabs my wrists, pinning them above my head. He transferred one wrist to his other hand so he’s holding both my wrists in one hand. His hand softly traces my arm traveling down to my waist. I shiver at his touch loving the trail of sparks from the mate bond that follows his fingers. I press my hips into Jake and he responds by grabbing my thigh and hitches my leg around his waist. I moan when he presses his hips into the part of me that aches for him the most. 

I feel Jake’s hard member pressed against my thigh. We stay like that making out for a few more minutes until we are both gasping for air. Jake puts his forehead against mine. We are both breathing hard and my arousal permeates the air.

“Do you wanna come inside,” I whisper. “Or we could go to your room.”

“Not tonight,” Jake said, regret in his eyes. “I want to take things slow with you. When you are absolutely ready and willing, then we can take this further. But for now, I think we should say good night.”

I stare at him searching his face for any signs that tell me that I have a chance to convince him to stay but I find none. He is determined to do this right. I nod my head and step back.

“Alright then,” I said, smiling up at him. “Goodnight, Jake.”

“Goodnight, my sweet little Lani,” he murmurs.

He gives me a quick kiss and then turns disappearing down the hall toward the stairs.
