A Mate That was Lost

Chapter 5

Two Years Later

Lani’s POV

It’s been almost two years since I left the Silver Lake pack. Since I left I have gained my wolf. Her name is Diamond. Now I live in the Blue Moon pack.

Flashback

When I woke up from being knocked out, I was still laying on the ground where I fell. Nobody helped me and Nobody called for help. Once I got my bearings I walked home wrapping my arms around myself. When I got home I went straight upstairs and packed a bag. My parents were at work, as usual, and wouldn’t be back until later so I wrote them a note explaining that I was leaving and to not look for me.

When I was done I walked out the door, locking it. I looked around and walked into the woods and just kept walking. All I could think about was what had happened. I couldn’t remember what I did to deserve any of that. I was lost in thought and didn’t realize that I was walking for hours and that I had walked right over the border of my pack's territory. I felt the link severe but just barely felt it since I still hadn’t gained my wolf. Nobody would really feel it so nobody would know that I had left until my parents got home and reported it to the Alpha.

I kept walking for a few more hours. When I finally stopped to rest I realized that it was dark out. I sat down under a tree and leaned my head back. I sat like that for a few minutes until I heard rustling from the bushes in front of me. I froze with fear. As I sat there watching the bush four wolves stepped out growling.

I sat there completely frozen. The dirty blonde wolf in front of me sniffed in my direction. It huffed at its companions and they stopped growling but they kept watching me. I watched as the wolf who sniffed me began to shift. The dirty blonde wolf shifted into a very tall and very muscular man with blonde hair and bright blue eyes. I quickly looked away as I realized that he was naked.

“Who are you,” the man asked.

I just sat there trembling. I couldn’t get my brain to work let alone speak.

“What are you doing here,” he asked, impatiently.

“I-I-I,” I stammer out. I clear my throat and try again. “My name is Lani Simmons and I came from the Silver Lake pack. I left my pack because I couldn’t stand staying there any longer.”

“Why,” the man asked gently.

I explained everything as best as I could. As I explain my situation the other three wolves shift and put on the shorts that, I am just now realizing, is tied to their ankles. All four wolves listen closely and their expression changes from curiosity to a mixture of shock and anger when I have finished. 

“I am sorry you had to go through all of that,” the blonde said, sincerely. “You are welcome to stay in my pack. I am Derek, the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack. And this my my Beta, Kendall.” He points to a somewhat shorter man with black hair and chocolate brown eyes. “My Gamma, Ryan.” He points to the man with light brown hair and green eyes. “And this is my head warrior, Victor.” He finishes the introductions by pointing to the red hair man with hazel eyes.

  After the introductions we headed to their packhouse and Derek told me more about them including the fact that they were all 18 and the only ones who were mated were Ryan and Kendall. I nodded my head at them and told them I had just turned 16 today. As they were continuing to tell me more about themselves I jumped as I heard a voice in my head.

“Hello little one,” the voice said.

“Hello,” I answer. “Are you my wolf?”

“I am,” the voice answered. “My name is Diamond. I have been dormant in your mind until now. I am sorry for everything that happened to you. I promise you though that we will become the strongest females in our new pack.”

I smile at myself because I am in complete agreement and look over at the guys who are watching me. They each smile at me knowing that I had just had my conversation with my wolf.

“What’s her name,” Alpha Derek asks.

I smile. “Diamond.”

End Flashback

Now it has been almost two years and tomorrow is my 18 birthday. I will be shifting for the first time tomorrow and everyone can tell because I have been very moody lately. 

Right now I was training with Vic. Diamond and I had made good on our promise and trained everyday for the last two years and became one of the strongest warriors in the Blue Moon pack. I worked my way up from being a shy Omega to a bad ass warrior. I am not as shy anymore. Since being in my new pack I have learned to stand up for myself and I have gained a new attitude towards life.

I am knocked out of my thoughts when Vic lands a blow to my hip. I flinch.

“Hey get your head out of clouds Lani,” Vic chuckles. “Are you gonna get your ass beat by little ol’ me.”

“As if,” I snorted. 

We continue to spar. We are pretty well matched since we have been training together. I have been called the best female warrior by the other pack members. After we are done working out we get a mind link from Derek to meet in his office.

Vic throws his arms over my shoulder and we walk to the office together. Vic and I have been kinda seeing each other a few months after he started to train me. He’s actually really sweet and he acts like he can’t get enough of me. I can’t said I am complaining. I can’t really said we are together because we don’t go out and the most we do is some heavy making out. Vic understands that I am waiting for my mate and he doesn’t pressure me, but I am pretty sure he is hoping that he is my mate. I guess we will find out tomorrow.

We’ve finally reached Derek’s office and Vic knocks on the door.

“Come in,” Derek calls.

We look at each other and Vic opens the door and we step inside.

“Vic, Lani,” Derek starts. “As you know tomorrow, Lani will be shifting into her wolf for the first time. I called you in here because it is tradition in this pack that whenever a new wolf shifts for the first time, they do so in front of the pack and afterwards all the wolves who can shift go for a run.”

I nod my head in understanding. I don’t know how I feel about stripping down in front of the pack but I guess I can get over it if it is tradition.

“Ok then,” Derek continues. “There should be a white dress that was delivered to your room earlier today that you will wear to the party. All females wear a white dress for their first shift. The material rips easily so the shift doesn’t ruin any of your clothes.”

I sigh in relief at hearing the fact that I won’t have to strip down in front of everyone.

“Alright if you don’t have any questions that is all I had to tell you,” Derek dismissed us.

Vic and I bow our heads slightly and exit the office. As we walk back downstairs Vic grabs my hand and intertwines our fingers. I don’t stop him and hold his hand as we walk to the kitchen. It’s dinner time and we are starving so I pull out some food and start cooking us something to eat.

Vic watches me as I cook. I ignore his watchful gaze and start to hum a tone that has been stuck in my head all day. I am frying up some chicken when Vic clears his throat. I turn my head and glance at him letting him know he has my attention.

“So…,” Vic starts. “Would you like to do anything special for your birthday after the pack run?”

“What do you have in mind,” I ask cautiously.

“We could go see a movie,” he suggests.

I tilt my head thinking about it and after a while I nod my head in agreement. Vic beams at me like he just won the lottery. I smile back at him blushing slightly and finish up dinner.

After we eat we chat for a little while and watch some TV. At around 11 I decide to call it quits and head to my room. When I get to my room I go take a shower, brush my teeth, and climb in bed. I close my eyes thinking about what was gonna happen tomorrow.
