It’s been a few weeks since I shifted and I have to say it’s been great. I train everyday in both human and wolf form. I let Diamond run around the pack territory whenever she wants. Which is a lot. She said it’s because she enjoys feeling the wind in her fur and the ground beneath her paws. I always feel so free whenever I let her out so I don’t complain.
Kendall is training me today because Vic is out on patrol. We are doing hand to hand combat and right now I am beating Kendalls ass. I can see Kendall is getting frustrated because he is losing and I grin mischievously.
“What’s the matter,” I tease. “It looks like you are losing your touch. What? You're gonna let a little girl beat you?”
He narrows his eyes at me. His movements become a little rougher but a lot faster. I stumble with my movements because I wasn’t expecting him to get faster. I start to struggle blocking his attacks and one gets through my defense. I grunt in pain as he lands a blow on hip. I stumble back and he takes the opportunity to sweep my legs out from under me. I land hard on my ass.
Kendall stands over me with a smirk on his face. He holds a hand out and I grudgingly accept his help up.
“You got too cocky,” he smirks. “You forget that I was holding back a little because I am the Beta which makes me faster and stronger.”
“I almost had you,” I shrug.
He chuckles but doesn’t say anything as we walk off the sparring ring outside. We walk to the packhouse in silence. When we get to the packhouse I turn to thank Kendall for the training and I see that his eyes have clouded over signaling that either he is talking to his wolf or he’s mindlinking with someone.
“Alpha Derek wants to speak with us,” Kendall informs me.
I nod my head and follow him to the Alphas office on the top floor. Kendall opens the door without knocking and walks in. When I walk in I see Vic already sitting in one of the chairs in front of the Alpha’s desk. My curiosity is immediately piqued.
“Good,” Derek said in his all business tone. “We have a serious situation and I need your help.”
“What’s going on, Alpha,” I ask curiously.
Derek gives me a long look and I see an apology in his eyes. I become even more confused and curious about what he is about to say.
“I have received a call for help from a neighboring pack,” he starts slowly. “They were recently attacked by a group of rogues and they were badly beaten. Luckily nobody lost their lives but they had to retreat. The old Alpha just passed the pack over to his son and he reached out to me when his father wouldn’t.”
I nod my head in understanding. A lot of old Alpha’s were always too proud to reach out for help from other packs especially if the Alpha is younger than them.
“I have reluctantly agreed to help,” Derek continues. “I have agreed that myself and two others would be going to the pack to help train the warriors as well as help the new Alpha with somethings concerning his pack. Vic and Lani will be joining me in training the other pack and Kendall will stay behind and act as Alpha while I am gone training this new Alpha.”
“Okay,” I said.
I pause and think for a minute. A terrible sense of dread starts and my stomach starts to knot. I narrow my eyes Derek.
“What’s the name of this pack,” I ask cautiously.
Derek quickly looks away but not before I see the guilt on his face. The feeling of dread quickly turns into disbelief then anger.
“The Silver Lake pack,” he said slowly, not looking me in the eyes.
I feel Vic stiffen next to me. I start to shake as I feel my anger start to morph into pissed offness.
“You have to be f*****g joking,” I roar. “There is no way in hell that I'm going back there. You are out of your f*****g mind. Sorry, Alpha, but you are just going to have to find another wolf to train that pack of assholes.”
Derek is sitting there calmly as I rant. When I am done I am breathing heavy and Derek continues to watch me.
“I’m sorry, Lani,” he said dangerously calm. “You and Vic are two of the best warriors in the pack, which means you two are the best choice to train Alpha Jake’s warriors. You are going, that is an order from your Alpha.”
I stare at him in disbelief and anger. I turn on my heel and stomp out the office slamming the door behind me. I head to my room and slam the door. I throw myself onto the bed and scream as loud as I can into the bed. When I’m done I roll over and stare at the ceiling.
I am laying there for about ten minutes when there is a soft knock on the door. Before I can answer the door slowly opens and Vic pops his head in before entering my room and softly closing it behind him.
“Alpha Derek sent me to tell you that we are leaving at first light tomorrow,” he said quietly.
I sigh and nod my head turning my gaze back to the ceiling.
“I guess I have no choice,” I murmur. “I just don’t know if I can handle going back there and not hurt someone.”
“I’m sure you can handle it,” Vic chuckles. “Besides I am sure a few of the wolves there deserve a good ass beating.”
I grin at the thought. My grim widens when I realize that I will be training the wolves. I would be whooping their asses when I train them. My mood just jumped to straight up giddy at the thought.
Vic and I talk about nothing for a few hours before he leaves me to pack. I don’t know how long we will be gone so I pack two week worth of clothes just to be safe. When I am done I jump in the shower and start to get ready for bed. When I am under the covers I quickly fall asleep.
I wake up slowly when someone starts banging on my door. I groan and turn to look at my clock to see that it is 5 am, when the door opens revealing a smiling Vic. Ugh. Why is Vic such a morning person and I am immediately suspicious of any morning people. What makes people so happy this early in the f*****g morning. I turn back over and glare at Vic who just smiles harder.
“Rise and shine, sunshine, the earth say hello,” Vic sings off key.
“Vic,” I growl, warning him to tone down the cheerfulness.
“Sorry,” he chuckles.
I growl again causing him to throw his hands up and surrender. He turns to grab my bags.
“I’ll take your bags downstairs,” he said, walking out my door.
I huff my response and he pauses at the door grinning.
“Alpha Derek wants to leave in fifteen minutes,” he said and shuts the door.
My eyes widen and I jump out of bed to take a quick shower. Five minutes later I am brushing my teeth and throwing on a pair of work out shorts and a t-shirt. I slip on my sneakers and run downstairs where Vic and Derek are waiting. Derek nods at me and turns and walks out the door to the cars. Vic and I follow.
Vic hops into the driver seat and Derek in the passenger seat. I slide into the back seat and settle in for the five hour drive that is ahead of us. We take off and I put my headphones in leaning my head against the window closing my eyes.
I must have fallen asleep because Vic is shaking me awake and the car is off.
“We are here,” Vic said softly.
I turn and look out the window and see we are in front of the packhouse. Jake and Brian are standing on the top of the stairs waiting. Derek and Vic get out of the car and walk over to greet them. I sigh and slowly unbuckle my seat belt.
I open the door and am immediately stopped by the most amazing scent. It smells like fresh fruit and rain. My eyes immediately snap up and I realize the scent is coming from the last person I expected.
“Mate,” Diamond yells in my head.
Jake’s POV
Brian and I are waiting outside for the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack and two of his warriors arrive.
“Alpha they are here,” one of my warriors' mindlinks me.
My back immediately straightens. I hear Brian sigh beside me. He still hasn’t totally forgiven me for what happened two years ago but he is still my Beta and for that I am grateful. He is the one that stood by my side when I told my father that I reached out to Blue Moon for help. Brian and I are still like brothers but sometimes the relationship is strained especially when Jenna is around. Which is a lot especially after Brian and Alicia found out they were mates.
I am shaken from my thoughts as I see a black SUV pull up. Alpha Derek and another man steps out.
“Welcome Alpha Derek,” I greet him respectfully.
“Thank you Alpha Jake,” he said coolly.
I am about to say something when the back door of the SUV opens and I smell the most amazing and intoxicating scent. It smells like vanilla and fresh flowers. The scent makes my heart skip a beat.
“Mate,” Hades growls in my head.
I stand there and watch, waiting to see who is in the car. My eyes widen and my jaw drops when I see the last person I ever expected to see again, Lani Simmons. Her head snaps up and her eyes lock on mine. Shock is written all over her face and is quickly replaced with a cold look.
I feel Brian stiffen beside me as he notices Lani walking up to Alpha Derek and the other man.
“Alpha Jake,” Alpha Derek said calmly. “This is my head warrior Victor and I'm sure you already know Lani, she is the best female warrior in my pack.”
He introduces Lani and the man. My eyes snap back to Alpha Derek and I realize that I didn’t introduce Brian to them. Just as I was opening my mouth Alicia walks out and stands by Brian.
“Alpha Derek, Victor, Lani,” I said. “This is my Beta, Brian, and his mate, Alicia.”
Brian and Alicia smile politely but Brian walks up to Lani and hugs her tightly. I growl and Brian immediately lets go and steps back. He turns to glare at me and immediately understands why the reaction when he sees the look on my face. He nods his head and walks back to Alicia, who is glaring at Lani.
“Why don’t we take this to your office, Alpha,” Alpha Derek said calmly.
I nod my head and lead them to my office. When we get to my office, I walk over to my desk and sit down. Brian and Alicia go and stand behind me holding hands. Alpha Derek and Victor take a seat in the chairs in front of my desk while Lani stands, leaning against the wall the farthest away from me. I try to catch her eye but she just ignores me glaring at the floor. I sigh.
“Alpha Jake,” Alpha Derek starts. “I understand that Lani used to be in your pack but she is one of my best warriors. I know you and some of your members had a problem with her while she was here but I expect that while she is here, training your warriors, your pack members don’t cause any problems.”
His eyes narrow on Alicia and I turn to see she is still glaring at Lani. I growl at her in warning and she quickly looks away and tightens her grip on Brian. Brian's eyes cloud over and so do Alicia's, signaling that they are mindlinking each other. When their eyes clear up Alicia relaxes and smiles at Brian which he returns. Brian turns his head back to me and nods his head to continue.
“I promise that my pack members will be on their best behavior,” I reassure both Alpha Derek and Lani.
Alpha Derek nods his head in approval. He looks at Victor signaling him to begin talking.
“Alpha Jake,” Victor begins.
I look over to him and notice he is tense but calm.
“My plan for your packs training is simple,” Victor continues. “I will be training all your male warriors while Lani trains your female warriors. We will start in human form and then we will move on to training in wolf form. We will begin tomorrow morning at 6 am sharp with conditioning and after that Lani and I will fight your warriors one on one and decide where to go from there.”
I nod my head in agreement and quickly glance over to Lani who continues to glare at the floor. I look back at Alpha Derek and Victor, who is staring at me hard with anger swirling in his eyes. I am taken aback at Victor's reaction and quickly understand why. He has a crush on my mate. I look him over and see that he isn’t bad looking. I smirk knowing that I am better looking than he is.
Alpha Derek and Victor stand.
“If that is all Alpha Jake,” Alpha Derek said. “Will you have someone show us to our rooms?”
I nod my head and mindlink one of my warriors to show them to their rooms. I nod my head again and Victor and Alpha Derek walk over to the door where Lani is waiting. Victor walks up to Lani and throws his arm over her shoulder and she looks up at him and smiles sweetly.
Hades takes over and growls a deep growl that shakes the office. I quickly take back control and notice everyone is staring at me. Victor is smirking while Lani just glares. Alicia is trying not to laugh while Brian and Alpha Derek watch me carefully.
I shake my head in frustration and open the door where a warrior is waiting.
“Sam will take you to your rooms,” I growl.
Alpha Derek nods his head and all three walk out following Sam to their rooms. I slam my door and run my hand through my hair.
“Something on your mind Alpha,” Brian smirks.
“Lani,” I said slowly. “She’s my mate.”
Brian just stands there smirking while Alicia bursts out laughing.
“It’s not funny,” I growl.
“Yes it is,” Alicia said. “You are gonna have to grovel and beg her for forgiveness if you want her to accept you. It’s gonna be extra hard for you.”
“Love,” Brian warns. “You didn’t exactly treat her well either.”
“I know,” she sobers up. “I will apologize for my actions and hopefully she will forgive me. Jake, here, is gonna have it the hardest cause he was the one that was actually cruel to her. All I did was laugh and dump a milkshake on her head.”
I sigh because she’s right. I was gonna have to try my hardest to get Lani to forgive me and accept me. I don’t even know where to begin.
Lani’s POV
I can’t believe this.
Jake Silver is my f*****g mate.
I am silently fuming on while the warrior, Sam, shows me to my room. Alpha Derek is staying on the Alpha floor while Victor and I were staying on the floor with the Gamma’s. Victor was already in his room and I was taken to the room next to his. Sam stops in front of the door and nods his head before walking away.
I have just entered my room when I hear a soft knock. I am expecting Victor on the other side of the door so I open the door with a smile on my face.
My smile quickly disappears when I see Jake on the other side of the door.
I stand there gripping the door knob as hard as I can. Jake just stands there watching me closely. I sigh and try and calm the furious storm that is forming in my chest. I take a deep breath and realize that I am instantly calm because I can smell his scent. I am annoyed at my reaction and growl.
“Lani,” he said softly.
“What the hell do you want,” I snap.
Jake sighs and pushes his way into my room. I roll my eyes and close the door leaning up against it.
“I want to talk,” he said, turning around.
“So talk,” I said crossing my arms over my chest, not moving.
Jake takes a deep breath and looks up at me. I study his face watching the emotions play across his face. Longing, sadness, and regret. I don’t know what to make of the emotions on his face so I keep my face a mask of calm. What he says next floors me because I wasn’t expecting it to come from him ever.
“I’m so sorry for everything I have done to you, Lani.”
