A Mate That was Lost

Chapter 9

I explained my plan to Brian. He listened closely and when I was done he smiled and agreed to help me. This has to be the best plan I have ever come up with and it was also the first time I ever did anything like this before. I was nervous Lani would hate it and walk away but on the other hand I really wanna show her how much she means to me. She is my mate and I want her to feel special.

I finished my dinner and went upstairs to shower. After I showered I went to my closet and put on some black dress slacks, a white button up shirt, and a black blazer. After I was dressed I slipped on some nice shoes. I decided to leave my hair alone and I was out the door. My plan was officially in motion and I needed to get a few things before Brian started on his part.

After I was done getting everything set up just how I wanted it I shot Brian a text to let him know he can start on his part. He sent me a thumbs up and I waited.

Lani’s POV

After we ate, Alicia stayed and we hung out some more. We were sitting on the couch watching the fifth episode of Supernatural when someone knocked on the door. Alicia and I looked at each other and I shrugged. She got up and went to the door and opened it. I heard hushed voices and then Alicia walked back to the couch with Brian right behind her. They both had goofy smiles on their faces. I watched them closely not knowing what was going on.

“Why are y’all smiling like that,” I ask. “It’s kinda creepy.”

“I heard that you and Jake are mates,” Alicia said, still smiling.

I stiffen and look at Brian. Brian doesn’t show any hint of surprise so I know Jake must have told him which means he told Alicia.

“Yeah,” I said slowly. “Jake and I are mates.”

Alicia squeals and claps her hands getting excited and Brian just stands there smiling even harder.

“That doesn’t mean I accepted him,” I said, quickly. “He did a lot of s**t to me when I lived here and I don’t know if I can forgive him.”

Alicia and Brian both nod in understanding but their smiles stay on their face.

“I told him I would give him a chance to make it up to me,” I sigh.

Nobody says anything for a while and we are all just staring at each other. I am starting to get uncomfortable when Brian’s phone goes off. He checks his phone and quickly sends a reply to whoever texted him. He puts his phone back into his pocket and looks at me.

“Lani can you do me a favor,” Brian asks.

I narrow my eyes suspiciously at him and nod.

“Alicia and I have plans in a little while,” he starts and Alicia nods her head in agreement. “Jake just asked if I could go with him on patrol. Do you think you could go in my place?”

I don’t answer right away and just stare at him.

“Please Lani,” Alicia begs. “Brian and I made these plans weeks ago and we would really appreciate it if you could help us out.”

I stay silent for a few more minutes thinking it over and finally I sigh.

“Fine,” I said. “Diamond could go for a run, anyway.”

Alicia squeals in excitement and claps her hand jumping up and down. Brian tells me where to meet Jake and I head out. When I get to the woods I smell Jake’s scent but I don't see him. I quickly take my clothes off and shift. Diamond stretches and walks in a slow circle.

“Where is mate,” Diamond asks.

“I don’t know,” I answer. “Maybe we should follow his scent and catch up with him.”

Diamond grunts in agreement and takes off following Jake’s scent. 

I am running for half an hour when Jake’s scent starts to get stronger. Diamonds ears perk up and I hear running water. I pause as I see a faint glow. I slowly walk forward and walk through some bushes.

My eyes widen as I take in the scene in front of me. There is a small waterfall with a small watering hole. All around me are beautiful twinkling lights. My eyes land on a blanket next to the water and Jake is standing there looking handsome in black slacks, a white button up shirt, and black blazer. Diamond walks up to Jake slowly.

Jake is watching me with awe on his face as he sees me in wolf form for the first time. He reaches his hand out and I walk up to him slowly being cautious. Jake hesitates before closing the distance between us. He runs his fingers through my fur and Diamond purrs as the sparks from the mate bond erupts on my skin.

“So beautiful,” Jake whispers.

He keeps touching my fur and I continue to watch him. He shakes his head and takes a step back. A smile forms on his face as he hands me a bag.

“Here,” he said grinning. “Go shift and put this on.”

I take the bag into my mouth and walk behind some trees to shift. After I am done I open the bag and see a silver strapless maxi dress with black flats. I take the dress out and a Black strapless bikini falls out. I shake my head as I slip on the clothes and shoes. I walk back out into the clearing. I stop in front of Jake.

Jake’s eyes roamed over my body and his eyes darkened with lust.

“You look stunning,” he murmurs. “I’m glad everything fits. I worried it wouldn’t.”

“Thank you,” I smile. “It’s a perfect fit.”

I look around again and raise an eyebrow at him silently asking him what was going on.

“I wanted to take you on a date,” he shrugs. “I was afraid you would said no if I asked so I decided to surprise you with it instead. Do you like it?”

He looks at me with worry plain on his face. I look into his eyes and I see fear in them as well. He is scared that I will hate what he did for me and walk away.

“It’s beautiful Jake,” I said sincerely.

He lets out the breath he was holding and grins with relief. He puts his hand on my lower back and leads me to the blanket. I look down and see a bottle of wine and a spread of meat and cheese. I sit down and Jake sits across from me.

“What is your wolf’s name,” Jake asks. “Hades won’t stop asking.”

“It’s ok,” I giggle. “I understand. Her name is Diamond.”

“Beautiful name for a beautiful wolf,” Jake saids smiling. “You have a beautiful laugh.”

I blush at his comment and his smile widens. We sit and just talk comfortably for a while.

After a few hours of just snacking between talking, Jake stands up and starts to strip down to his boxers. I sit there watching him with wide eyes.

“Wow,” Diamond purrs. “Our mate is sexy as hell.”

“Yeah he is,” I answer honestly.

“You think he’s big in every way,” Diamond asks, snickering.

“You are such a perverted wolf,” I said back pushing her to the back of my mind.

Jake is standing there watching me as I talk to my wolf. He has a smirk on his face like he knows what we were talking about. I blush and look away.

“You ready to go for a swim,” Jake asks, chuckling.

I nod my head still not looking at him. I stand and take off my dress and flats. When I am done I finally look at Jake and he stares at me with raw hunger in his eyes. He catches me watching him stare at me and shakes his head. He holds out his hand. I look at it and slowly put my hand in his. Sparks erupt from the contact making me gasp. Jake smirks again before turning and leading me to the water. We walk into the water and I am surprised at how warm the water is.

Jake’s POV

I have never seen anything as beautiful as the girl swimming in front of me. I tread water and just watch her and she swims around smiling. Goddess, she has a beautiful smile.

“She should smile more,” Hades saids.

“Yeah she should,” I respond smiling. “We are gonna be the ones to make her smile.”

“Diamond is beautiful,” he purrs after a while. “She is the most beautiful wolf I have ever seen. I love the fact that her paws are black and the rest of her is white.”

“I am sure she can’t wait to meet you herself,” I muse.

“I want to meet her now,” Hades growls. “You met her. I want to meet her. I want to mate with our mate.”

“Down boy,” I said, chuckling. “If I let you out now and you mate her, you will definitely scare her away. Patients. You will meet her soon but you need to wait to mate with her.”

  Hades growls but doesn’t press the issue and retreats to the back of my mind. Lani is watching me and I smile at her.

“Hades wants to meet Diamond,” I explain.

Lani nods her head understanding.

“Diamond wants to meet Hades as well,” she muses. “Should we let them out so they can meet?”

My eyes widened at her suggestion. I wasn’t expecting them to meet so fast. I thought Lani would want to wait a while for our wolves to meet, especially since she hasn’t accepted me as her mate or forgiven me.

I smile and nod my head and we both get out of the water. I watch her as she walks over the blanket. She is beautiful and sexy. She has curves in all the right places and a nice round ass that sways as she wakes. I gulp and tear my eyes away from her and take a deep breath. 

When I have a little more control of myself I walk over to the blanket and join her.

“Are you ready,” I ask.

She nods her head and takes a deep breath and backs up so she can shift. We both shift and when we are done our wolves stare at each other. Hades walks up to Diamond and sniffs her. Diamond huffs and sniffs Hades back. Hades circles Diamond and I immediately know what he is about to do.

“Don’t mount her, i***t,” I shout at him. “You don’t wanna scare her away. If you try and mate with her now we will lose her forever.”

Hades growls and backs up. Diamond turns around and crouches down wiggling her ass in the air. Her tail is wagging signaling she wants to play. I watch her and she suddenly leaps at me and pins me to the ground. Hades growls painfully and we start to wrestle. I end up pinning her to the ground and she whines. I let her up and she shakes her fur to get the dirt off. 

  Diamond looks at me for a minute and then takes off running. I watch as she jumps into the water. I chuckle in my mind and soon I am running after her jumping in. I retreat to the back of my mind letting Hades have control to get to know Diamond.

After a few more hours Hades and Diamond are starting to get tires so I take control and nod my head towards the packhouse and Diamond nods her head in understanding. We both walk back to the back house letting our fur brush against each other. 

“Brian,” I mindlink Brian.

“Yes, Alpha,” he responds.

“Can you and Alicia bring Lani and me some clothes please,” I ask.

“Sure thing,” Brian answers.

I end the mindlink and sit down to wait. Diamond looks over at me and sits as well tilting her head questioningly. I huff at her and I turn to the packhouse and see Brian and Alicia walking towards us with clothes in their hands. They hand us our clothes and nod at us before turning and walking back. I turn and walk to the tree line and Diamond follows walking behind a tree out of sight.

I shift back and pull on my gym shorts and my t-shirt. I walk back out and wait for Lani to finish getting dressed. When she walks out she has on a loose shirt and some shorts on. I smiled at her and she smiled back with a hint of a blush on her cheeks.

“I hope you and Diamond had fun,” I said looking at her.

“We both had a ton of fun,” Lani giggles. “It was the best surprise date ever.”

I puff out my chest in pride. I decided to chance it and hold my hand out to her. She looks at my hand and hesitates. A few emotions flash across her face and the only one I can make out is longing. She hesitates a few more seconds before she grabs my hand. I smiled in victory and intertwined our fingers. I turn and we walk back to the packhouse hand in hand.

Tonight is definitely the best night of my life and I hope it isn’t the last.
