CHAPTER IV - SURPRISE

1830 Words
It was almost a week since I lived here with Kai and there were changes. I started to clean the house, washed the clothes and I also cleaned our room within four hours. I took a break on the couch and I fell asleep. It really made me looked like a wife. As I woke up, I smelled an aromatic food. I followed it and it seemed to be a chicken soup. I saw Kai cooking this delicious food. He was reading a book and when I looked closer, it was a cooking book. My heart melted as I saw him doing this thing. My face turned to red with my sweaty palms. I went back to the couch and read some otaku magazines to avoid distracting him. He prepared our lunch and I smiled seeing his plating. I sat opposite to him and he did not touch his food. I tasted its soup but it was salty. I looked at him, trying to hid dismay. I ignored the taste because he cooked it with his heart full of efforts. I did not comment about his cooking, seeing him seriously looking at me; I just smiled at him. I tasted the chicken and it was really salty but I would grant him for this. He tasted it but he quickly spitted it to the sink. He really did not blend it well. “Why didn’t you tell me that it was salty?” He was annoyed but I still managed to smile and seeing him blushed made me laugh. “What are you laughing at?” he questioned irritably. I almost ate the half of it but he pulled my hand and went to the garage. He pushed me inside the car and drove away. “What are we doing here?” I asked surprisingly, while he looked mean to me and stopped to a fastfood chain, McDo. “We’ll eat here,” he answered seriously. What was this, a date? If this was a date, it would be my first. People around were looking at us, realizing that our hands were intertwined and he did not notice it because he was busy looking for our lunch. “Two McSpaghetti, two large fries and two large coke.” He ordered to the cashier. He held my hand again while waiting for the food, blushing cheeks on his face and he unheld my hand. May be, he realized it when I squeezed his hand. He got the tray of food and we found a place to eat at the corner near the glass window. “Delicious!” I uttered while gobbling my spaghetti, ate a strip of fries and took a sip of coke while watching him to eat. “They’re sweet.” I heard a cute voice coming from a girl. “Yes, so sweet, looks like coffee and milk couple.” I heard from a lady next to her. I stopped eating fries, seeing his red face looking at me made my heart raced rapidly. “Don’t mind them, just finish your food,” he said with an emotionless look. I followed what he said, eating my McSpaghetti with disappointment and he stopped for awhile, looking at me differently at my lips. He put out his handkerchief and wiped the right side of my lips that made me blushed. “Aww, he’s so tender.” I heard the girl with a cute voice said. Kai looked so good while smiling, eating his food that made my heart pumped more blood to my whole body with my knees began to tremble. I started to felt butterflies around my stomach fluttering swiftly while walking around the mall after eating our lunch. “What are we doing here?” I asked, while walking in a distance at an arcade and looked at him. He bought 100 tokens to play at the arcade; holding my hand to get there at the basketball place. “Let’s play! Let’s have a match, if you got the higher score, I’ll treat you somewhere and if I win, you’ll treat me,” he said smirking at me. I realized that I forgot to bring money; seeing him smile like a devil made me upset. I pouted my lips, trying to make him feel that I was not interested with his deal and to tell that I did not have money at all. He ignored my childish look and he began to put the tokens in the machine. I started to shoot the first five balls but it never reached the basketball ring, seeing myself now while he was smiling at his best, made me pissed off. The four rounds made me felt tired lifting up my arms to shoot the balls, my muscles felt weak and seeing him still grinning was the worst. After rounds of playing the basketball, we got the sum score of each other and yes, I was right, he won. “Oh, you’ll treat me later!” He smiled annoyingly and I looked at him angrily. How could he do this to me? “I didn’t bring my money,” I said with an upset expression, he just laughed at me and smirked. “I will leave you here. Alone. You’re walking alone. Bye!” Then, he really left me alone at the arcade and as I looked around, there was no trace of him. I tried to find him but he was really gone. How could I go home? I walked outside the mall at four o’clock in the afternoon. My feet were hurt because of the long distance from our house. I stopped at the fountain to rest, my stomach was grumbling for food and all I had to do was to massage it. It was 4:25 in the afternoon when I started to walk again, thinking how far I should be walking and wanting to be at home. Too bad, I forgot my cellphone and wallet. As I continued walking, I felt tiny raindrops on my skin and looked at the cloudy sky. It looked like it was a heavy rain so I looked for a safe spot to stay for awhile. I was soaked in the heavy rain as I ran to a closed restaurant. I sat there for ten minutes, trembling because of coldness caused by my wet clothes. I heard a loud noise of the thunders and lightnings, cuddling myself was all I could do and wish I could go home. I looked in front of me. Looking at this person made me shivered more, thinking that I would be in danger and as he lifted his umbrella, I saw pity in his eyes. He helped me to stand up without breaking the interlocked eyes with me. My gaze turned at his back and I saw a guy standing with his umbrella too, looking at us and it was Haji smiling. “Let’s go home.” Kai invited me to his car with his emotionless face. I saw how surprised Haji was, looking at us and went inside his car. Kai drove so fast and we got home, ignoring how heavy the rain was and how loud the noise of thunders and lightnings around. He made me sat at the couch and gave me a towel to dry myself. “Take a bath,” he commanded. I felt bad while taking a bath so I did it quick. I changed in my pyjamas, dried my hair and went to the kitchen because I forgot that I did not eat my dinner. “Did you prepare this?” I asked happily but he did not respond. I looked at the hot seafood noodles and took a sip of its soup. He sat opposite to me and joined me eating the roasted chicken. The rain had stopped and there was a knock at the door. Kai rushed to open it and it was Lolo Adolfo who came for a visit. “Good evening,” we greeted each other as Lolo Adolfo sat with our dinner table. He shared his love story and my heart filled with joy. He told jokes but he got serious after laughing may be, it was really a serious matter. It made me nervous as he turned silent. “When will be the wedding date?” he asked, Kai’s face turned to a tinge of red, and I felt the rushing blood around my body. I cleared my throat, my hands got sweaty and with a rapid beatings of my heart. I looked at Kai if he was about to answer his grandfather. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, lolo. I’m too young to marry an ugly girl,” he said emotionlessly that made my eyes circled. Tell me what was happening to me? I blinked many times as I was surprised to his answer; making my heart break. He did not change. He was the stuck, selfish and emotionless person I knew. “Stop saying stupid, Kai. I know that you’re too young to marry this kind lady. She has a big heart and don’t let yourself be deceived by your eyes,” his grandfather adviced as he took a bit of roasted chicken. Kai did not respond, still emotionless and I, also did not know to answer. I was afraid he would always ignore me and never cared for me. I was afraid I would rejected by him as my future husband. “She’s so beautiful. Why can’t you see it?” his grandfather added and sighed. “I guess, Kai is right. I’m ugly and looks like not a perfect girl for him. I don’t deserve this handsome young man.” I smiled, bitting my lower lip and it made me feel upset more. Kai looked down at his food and looked seriously. “But time is running. You should marry each other early for your grandfather’s sake because it’s his last wish,” Lolo Adolfo said looking at Kai. “Whether you like it or not, you should be introduced as couples and engaged,” he added and made us surprised. “No, I object,” Kai said against his grandfather, made a noise on the table and he stood up. “How about you?” Lolo Adolfo asked me while he turned his look to me. I did not respond and I looked down. “You’re so kind and a beautiful lady.” He stood up and came near me, showing my face to Kai using his hand and I looked away at him. “I don’t know,” I answered as he removed his hand to my chin. Yes, it was true. I did not know the right decision. What if in the end, I would not be happy with him? What if he would end up hurting me always? What if he did not really care and love me? Did I do something wrong for this bad luck of fate? But, I already promised to Lolo Emman that I would do everything for him. I should make him happy. I wish I could go back to my old life without thinking anything like this. I felt like I was not free of making decisions now. I could not help myself out of this arranged marriage.
