Chapter 4: The Night That Changed Everything
The city was alive that night.
Aarav and Meera walked side by side, the neon lights of the streets casting a glow on their faces. The cool air carried the scent of roasted peanuts and freshly brewed chai from a nearby stall.
Neither of them spoke much.
But the silence between them wasn’t uncomfortable. It was the kind of silence that held meaning, that didn’t need to be filled with words.
Aarav stole a glance at her. She had her hands tucked into her coat pockets, her eyes lost somewhere in the distance. He wondered if she was still thinking about the song she had sung earlier. About what it had meant.
He wanted to ask.
But before he could, Meera spoke.
"Have you ever been afraid of something… and wanted it at the same time?"
Aarav stopped walking. "What do you mean?"
Meera sighed. "Love. It terrifies me. But sometimes… I think I want it too."
Aarav didn’t smile this time. He didn’t tease. He just watched her, his heart beating a little faster.
"You’re allowed to want love, Meera," he said softly.
She turned to him, searching his face. "And what if it ends in heartbreak?"
Aarav took a step closer, his voice barely above a whisper. "Then let’s make it worth it."
The air between them grew heavy, charged with something neither of them had the courage to name.
Then, out of nowhere—
A burst of laughter from across the street shattered the moment.
Meera blinked, taking a step back, as if realizing how close they had been.
Aarav sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Come on. Let’s go get that chai before you start overthinking again."
She laughed—soft and genuine—and followed him.
But that night, as she lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, Meera couldn’t help but wonder.
Maybe, just maybe… she was writing a love story after all.
