Meera had spent her entire life running from things she couldn’t control.
And love—this wild, unpredictable, heart-stopping feeling—was the most uncontrollable thing of all.
Aarav’s words echoed in her mind.
"I love you. And I know you love me too."
How could he say it so easily?
How could he be so sure?
She wished she had his certainty. His fearlessness. His ability to dive headfirst into something without worrying about the fall.
But Meera… she had spent too many years watching love destroy people.
Her parents' broken marriage. Her sister’s heartbreak. The way her own past relationships had crumbled under the weight of expectations and disappointments.
She couldn’t afford to fall.
Because what if Aarav didn’t catch her?

Aarav watched her in silence, his dark eyes unreadable.
She hadn't answered him.
She hadn’t said no, but she hadn’t said yes either.
And for the first time in his life, he was afraid.
Afraid that no matter how much he loved her, no matter how much he fought for her, Meera would always be too scared to fight for him.
He reached for her hand again, but this time, she stepped back.
It felt like a knife to his chest.
"Meera," he said, his voice quiet but firm. "Don’t do this."
She swallowed hard, avoiding his gaze. "I just… I need time."
Aarav’s jaw tightened. "Time for what?"
"To think," she whispered.
A bitter smile played on his lips. "You think too much."
Meera’s heart twisted. "Aarav, please…"
"Please what?" He ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. "Meera, I’m not asking you to promise me forever. I’m just asking you to stop being so afraid."
Her eyes burned with unshed tears. "That’s easy for you to say."
Aarav shook his head. "No, it’s not. You think I don’t know what it’s like to be scared? To wonder if the person you love will love you back the same way? You think I don’t know how much power love has to break you?"
Meera’s breath hitched.
"But you know what?" Aarav continued, stepping closer again. "I’d rather take that risk than live a life wondering what could have been."
She had no answer to that.
Because deep down, she knew he was right.
But fear was a powerful thing.
And for now, it still had a hold on her.
