Chapter two

/ Seraphina / Four weeks later “ You’re really worthless, aren’t you? Why can’t you just do anything right?!” My stepmom slapped me across the face. I didn’t flinch in surprise and neither did I cry. I had grown accustomed to being treated like this by my stepmom. “ Maybe that’s why she got rejected. Who’d even want her?” Clara, my half-sister said mockingly. Four whole weeks had passed since I was thrown out of Silver Moon pack and Clara would always make sure to remind me of how much of a failure I was. That’s not what bothered me though, as her taunts weren’t new to me. I only hated having to be reminded of a wound that was far from healing. “ Shut your mouth,” I clenched my fist and grit my teeth. “ What?! Did you just tell me to shut up?” She got up from her chair and brushing past the dining table to where I was, she grabbed me by the hair. “ Let go of me,” I struggled to free myself from her grip. “ You must have forgotten your position here after tasting what it’s like to be royalty because since when did you have the audacity to speak back to me!?” She yanked my hair. “ Let go of me!” I continued to struggle. “ I’m going to help you learn your place,” she slammed by face against the dining table. “ Clara,” her mom called her with a frown. “ Your dad’s not going to be happy when he finds out,” she said. “ So what am I supposed to do then!?” She raised her voice slightly on her mother. “ If I let it slide, who knows what she’ll say to me next.” “ I never said to let it slide. I’m only saying that you shouldn’t hurt her face, after all, that’s her value,” Lyra sighed. “ I don’t care. Dad wouldn’t bother defending a failure like her,” she snickered. “ Her face is her value but who wants her right now? She failed so a little punishment shouldn’t be a problem,” she stared into my eyes, smiling as she watched me in pain. Lyra simply shook her head, “ Do as you want, I couldn’t be bothered.” Clara slapped and shoved me as she went ahead to berate me because of my omega status and how I had failed the mission. The look in my father’s eyes when I returned was something I can never forget. It was nothing short of disappointment. He didn’t bother to speak to me and only grew colder towards me, letting Lyra turn me into a life-sized punching bag. Clara struck me again, and again, her anger escalating with each hit. I stumbled back, my head reeling, the room spinning around me. And with one last glance at my environment, I crumbled to the floor, unconscious. I woke up to the scent of drugs and antiseptic. I could hear inaudible voices in the background but couldn’t make out who had the voices. I forced open my eyes to see my father and Dr. Elias, our family physician. “ You’re awake?” He said as he rushed to my side to check me. My head hurt terribly and I wanted to go back to sleep. “ How are you feeling?” “ Terrible,” my voice can’t out hoarse. “ I couldn’t administer the regular pain killers because of your condition,” he patted my head with a warm smile. “ What condition?” I asked with a puzzled look. “ Before I tell you, I need you to answer a few questions for me,” he said and I agreed. “ Have you been feeling sick lately even a little bit?” “ Yes. I sometimes feel nauseous or get irritated by the slightest things,” I answered. “ Alright, I just wanted to confirm,” he nodded his head before getting to his feet. “ Doc, are you sure of that diagnosis?” My father asked in a serious tone. What was wrong with me? “ Yes, I’m sure,” he sighed. He turned to me. “ You’re pregnant, Your Highness. If you both don’t still believe, I can use my abilities to confirm in your presence,” he gave us an option. I remained silent, my eyes wide open now as I tried to process the information. If I was pregnant, that means, I am carrying Aslan’s child. I stared down at my hands nervously, unsure how to feel. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep it and be a mother, but I didn’t want to get rid of the child. A wave of conflicting emotions washed over me. I was more bothered by dad’s opinion and thoughts. I was afraid to look at him in the eyes and see a disappointed look once again. “ I can’t believe you botched the mission but ended up getting pregnant,” dad pinched his nose. He was obviously disappointed. “ I’m sorry,” tears rolled down my cheeks. “ Erm… I know this is a family matter but if you plan to keep the child, you all must refrain from hurting her both physically and emotionally,” Dr. Elias advised before taking his leave. “ What??? She’s pregnant?” Lyra, my stepmom rushed in with Clara following behind. “ I can’t believe she let herself get knocked up without even landing the father of her child,” Clara laughed. Dad ignored both Lyra and Clara. He looked lost in thoughts and then a smug appeared on his face. “ This could actually be advantageous,” he rubbed his chin. Lyra’s face twisted in a sneer. “ Advantageous? That bastard Aslan rejected her, there’s no way he’s going to accept her just because she’s carrying his child.” My father waved dismissively and with a made up mind, “ Aslan was never part of the plan. I’ve already made plans for her to marry another Alpha who’s pack is somewhat indebted to us. We can just pin it on him once she gets married, that way, her position would be sealed,” he said with a confident smirk. His plans were in place with I and my child being the center of it all. I always wondered if my dad had ever once cared about me. All he ever saw was an opportunity to exploit, to manipulate and to gain benefits with me as his pawn. “ And who could that be?” Lyra inquired, slightly doubtful. “ Alpha Kaiser of Night Shade pack.”
