Two weeks later
“ Are you headed somewhere?” Melinda asked as I stepped out all dressed.
“ Yes. I’m going to the hospital,” I informed her.
“ What? Are you sick? What happened to you?” She panicked. I had a feeling she would.
“ I’ve been feeling a bit weird lately,” I said to her.
“ How exactly have you been feeling?” She interrogated me.
“ Headaches here and there, nausea and mood swings,” I explained to her.
“ You’re being serious, right?” She gasped.
“ Yes. Is there a problem?” I acted like I didn’t already know what she was thinking.
“ I don’t want to jinx it so hurry up and go get checked,” she urged me to leave.
“ Is that a good sign or a bad sign?” I laughed awkwardly.
“ I’m not going to spill but it’s not a bad sign,” she did her best not to smile or squeal right now. “ Did you tell Kaiser about your symptoms?”
“ Yes, I did. He said I should get one of the driver’s to take me to the hospital,” I nodded my head.
“ That’s good to know. Be careful on your way out,” she patted my back before going back to the kitchen.
Taking a deep breath, I headed outside. The driver that was assigned to me for today was already waiting outside. I stared down at my phone as the car began to move, I felt guilty for what I was about to do but if I don’t do it now, I’d really be in trouble then. After we got married, Kaiser had nearly no interest to sleep with me and for three good weeks, nothing happened.
“ If he hadn’t gotten drunk that night, I’d have been completely done for,” I mumbled.
“ Did you say something, ma’am?” The driver must have seen my lips move through the rearview mirror.
“ No, not at all,” I forced a smile. I opened my inbox to reread what he had sent to me.
“ I’ve already arranged a doctor in XX hospital, so don’t ruin things,” the message read.
“ I should delete this just in case,” I sighed. Hopefully, everything would turn out right and I’d be able to give birth without a hitch and maybe Kaiser would start paying attention to me. It wasn’t that he hated me, he simply had no interest in me which broke my heart. Even if our marriage was arranged, I wanted us to make things work.
“ We’re here, ma’am,” the driver informed me and I went into the hospital.
Everything went as my father had planned. Got the test results which I already knew was positive and then got the ultrasound of a pregnancy of a month instead of two months.
“ But wouldn’t he find out when it’s time for me to give birth?” I was already worried about deceiving him, now I’m more worried about getting caught.
“ No, he won’t as long as you keep up with the s********e women give birth when the baby is eight months so it won’t be unheard of. You’ll give birth when you’re nine months pregnant but will be backdated by a month,” he explained to me. “ He won’t find out.”
I had no other choice but to trust what he had said as he had given me his words. I was still slightly bothered given how sharp Kaiser was. Nothing gets past him.
I felt relieved once we were home. I had grown fond of Kaiser’s mansion as I didn’t have judgemental eyes staring at me like back in Silver Moon pack and neither was I treated like a maid like I was at home. Though he showed no interest in me, he always made sure that I was comfortable even if not directly. I felt genuinely loved here and honestly, I didn’t want to leave for any reason.
“ Sera? What are you doing standing by the door?” Melinda rushed towards me and grabbing me gently by the hand, she pulled me to the main living room. “ Do you want to eat anything?”
“ I’m craving cake and orange juice. I hope is not a bother to request for them?” I didn’t want to be a burden to anybody.
“ Why would that be a bother to us?” She folded her arms and sighed loudly. “ Someone get me a slice of cake and a glass of orange juice!” She yelled so that one of the maids would bring what I had asked for.
Once it was served, we were left alone. I enjoyed the combination of both the cake and the juice.
“ So, how did the test go? What did they say is wrong with you?” She was curious.
“ I’m pregnant,” I smiled.
“ Oh my goodness,” she covered her mouth with both hands. “ I had a feeling you were when you mentioned those symptoms. I can’t believe I’m finally getting a grandchild,” she was a lot more excited than when I was first told about my pregnancy.
I simply smiled as I watched her express her happiness. I envied Kaiser. To be loved by a lot of people and to have someone like Melinda showering him with motherly love while still having a mother that cared about him.
“ Should I call him and tell him to come home early?” She was excited.
“ I would love that, just that you’d need to hide your excitement over the call,” I told her.
“ Don’t worry, I don’t plan to spill it. That’s your duty not mine,” she said as she took out her phone to reach out to Kaiser.

Later that evening
“ Nana, you wanted me to come home early. Did something happen?” He asked as he walked in. He truly had gotten off work earlier, that shows how much he values Melinda.
“ Nothing really,” she shook her head. She was a lot better at acting than I was.
“ Hmmm,” he didn’t totally believe her.
“ Welcome home,” I welcomed him with a warm smile.
“ Yeah, thanks,” he responded awkwardly.
“ Kaiser, I have something to say to you,” I mustered the courage to talk to him. Now that I think about it, we rarely ever talk. We just exchange pleasantries and talk only when necessary.
“ I’m guessing that’s why I was asked to come back home early,” he glanced at Melinda who pretended not to have heard him.
“ I have no idea what you’re talking about. I just wanted to cook for you since you’ve been working overtime lately,” she was really smooth.
“ Haa,” he heaved. “ Anyway, go on. What did you want to tell me?” He turned his attention back to me.
“ I’m pregnant,” I said in a low voice. I felt guilty, too guilty to look him in the eye and my heart raced with his silence. Why wasn’t he responding?
“ Okay,” he nodded his head.
“ If that’s all, I’ll be heading upstairs,” he excused himself. Of every reaction I thought he’d make, this wasn’t one of them. Tears gathered in my eyes as he walked past me.
“ Kaiser,” Melinda called him, her tone slightly annoyed. “ Your wife just told you that she’s pregnant, how can you react that way?”
“ I said ‘ okay ’, what’s wrong with that?” He justified his actions.
“ You should be more excited about your child,” she frowned.
“ You can’t blame me. I didn’t plan on getting married in the first place,” he muttered and the tears I was holding back slipped from my eyes and rolled steadily down my cheeks.
“ Kaiser!” Melinda raised her voice. Kaiser with a sigh, walked back towards where we were and placed a hand on my head.
“ Let’s go upstairs, we need to talk about something,” he said to me.
“ That wasn’t the kind of apology I was expecting, Kaiser,” Melinda still wasn’t satisfied.
“ Just let it rest for tonight,” he groaned not wanting to hear her nagging go on. We went to our room and I stood still with my head to the floor as he took off his suit, his back facing me.
“ I’ll save your time and get straight to the point,” he sighed like everything was stressing him out.
“ I’m already aware that the child isn’t mine.”
I dropped to the floor in shock as tears streamed down my face. How had he known? More importantly, now that he knows, will he ask for a divorce?
“ I-I…” I sobbed. “ Do you want me to get rid of it?” I held my belly while crying silently.
“ I never said that. I’m simply letting you know that I’m aware that the child you’re carrying isn’t mine. You can keep it if you want to,” he shrugged as he sat on the bed. I wasn’t sure if I felt grateful that he let me keep it despite not being it’s father or sad that he didn’t react at all. Did he not like me or at least feel possessive about me?
