Confrontation in the Hall
The hall was unusually quiet, the late afternoon sun cutting through the high windows, casting sharp lines across the polished floors. Erica and Sabrina were seated together, quietly speaking, still wrapped in the fragile warmth of their reunion.
The door creaked, and both women looked up to see Azure and Dominion standing there, eyes sharp, voices cautious but commanding.
“Why were you hiding from us?” Azure demanded first, her tone carefully measured but brimming with tension. “All of this time… why didn’t we know?”
Sabrina’s hand moved to rest on Erica’s shoulder, protective. “Azure—”
“You don’t get to speak first!” Azure interrupted, her eyes flashing with the intensity of someone who had sensed deception but wasn’t fully aware of its depth. “I’ve trained for years under your guidance, and yet you’ve been keeping secrets. Why?”
Erica stood, placing herself slightly in front of Sabrina. “Azure… please, let me explain. There are things you don’t yet understand—things that have kept us alive.”
Dominion’s expression was tighter, skeptical. “Alive or manipulated? That’s what I want to know. I’ve watched from the walls. I’ve seen how you two… interact. There’s something going on, and I’m not blind.”
Sabrina’s gaze flicked between the two, her composure strained. “Dominion… Azure… I never intended for you to discover the truth this way. Every choice I made was to protect Azure. To protect her life. And yes… even Erica’s. But there are consequences to the truths you seek. Some you might not be ready for.”
Azure stepped forward, fists clenched at her sides. “Try me. We’ve faced demons, traitors, and war. I can handle the truth.”
Erica nodded. “You can, Azure. But it’s more than just truths about battles. It’s about choices made under impossible pressure… about people you’ve trusted having to act against the world to keep you safe.”
Dominion’s sharp gaze narrowed. “So you admit secrets were kept. Who? And why?”
Sabrina’s voice trembled slightly, betraying years of restrained emotion. “I—I did what I had to. After Azaerl and Lovely… after they never returned from the battle, I was left with Azure. I raised her, trained her, protected her—but I was forced to cooperate with Kaelen. He promised me she would live, and so I led his army into the walls of the angels. I—”
Azure froze, shock rippling through her. “You… what?”
Erica placed a calming hand on her shoulder. “It was to protect me, Azure. Kaelen threatened Sabrina. He forced her to make impossible choices. That’s why she never approached me sooner. She didn’t know I was hers.”
Dominion took a step back, absorbing the weight of Sabrina’s confession. “You risked everything… for her?”
Sabrina nodded, tears glimmering in her eyes. “Every choice, every sacrifice… it was to save her life. Even when it meant being seen as a traitor. Even when it meant obeying him in ways that shattered my honor.”
Azure’s expression shifted from shock to a mixture of anger, grief, and determination. “And you hid this from me? From all of us? For years?”
Erica shook her head. “She didn’t want to risk anyone else, not Azure, not you, not Dominion. Her loyalty was to Azure’s survival first. And she bore the guilt alone.”
Dominion’s jaw tightened, voice measured but firm. “I see. So Kaelen used her loyalty against us all, and she was forced to act under duress. And yet… she succeeded in keeping Azure alive.”
Sabrina bowed her head, overwhelmed. “Yes. But the burden has been mine alone. And now… now the consequences are growing. Kaelen’s influence reaches far and wide. Secrets like these… they invite danger.”
Azure stepped closer to Sabrina, voice softer now, though still tense. “I may be angry, but I understand. You didn’t fail. You raised me. You protected me. And I… I trust you. But we need honesty now, all of it. No more shadows, no more lies. We can’t afford it.”
Erica’s eyes met Azure’s. “She is my mother, Azure. And she has always been on your side. That is the truth you need to carry.”
Dominion’s expression softened slightly. “Then we work together now. Sabrina, Erica, Azure… no more hidden moves. Whatever Kaelen has planned, we face it as one.”
Sabrina let out a trembling breath. “Yes. Together.”
For a moment, the tension in the hall lifted, replaced by a fragile, resolute alliance. But in the shadows beyond the windows, the traitor watched silently, a faint smirk curling at the edges of his lips.
“Patience,” he whispered. “They believe themselves united. That is when the cracks will appear.”
Inside the hall, however, the four of them—Sabrina, Erica, Azure, and Dominion—stood together, hearts pounding, eyes burning with resolve. The truths had been revealed. The bonds had been mended. And now… the real battle could begin.
Azure sad by the truth was deeply in pain but couldn’t neglect justice and the hand that trained her.
