Chapter 4 “It can’t be him,” I told myself as I still couldn’t believe it. If it was him, he wouldn’t have just walked away like that right. I am just imagining stuffs but how did I even imagine I saw him? It has been years and I have long forgotten about him. What happened? “This is crazy!” I uttered to myself. I’m currently at home. Ari is also at home. She is in the living room operating her phone. I still have the balance of the 100 dollars she gave me this morning. I kept it in my room. “How was the interview?” Ari asked me, her attention on her phone. “It was okay. Hoping for the best” I replied even though my hope is just 2%. “Goodluck” she simply said and I nodded. “Thank you” I said. “For?” “Everything. You still borrowed me money today despite my countless debts. I owe you Ari” “Oh, it’s fine. Just pray you get the job” I will forever be grateful to her if I get the job. She made me know about the company in the first place. *********** The next day.... Evening... “Uhm Ari. Please lend me your phone. I want to check my email” “I thought you said they would get back to you in three days” she scrunched her brows. “Yeah. But I dreamt I got the job. Just want to confirm” I said, my heart beating fast. “Oh okay...” She said and handed her phone to me. I logged in to my email account and closed my eyes. I opened it back not nothing new. No message at all. Who am I kidding? I returned the phone to her disappointedly and returned to my room. The days moved annoyingly slowly. I knew I would get disappointed at the end but I still have little hope. On the third day, I checked My email and still nothing and this time around, I lost hope. The job would have been given to someone else obviously. I should have gone for the restaurant instead. “At this point, I will stop my job hunt. I’m tired of getting disappointed every single time!” I complained to Ari. “You should chill. You can still...” “Trying to make me feel better, I get. It isn’t working” I laughed dryly. Ari said nothing and just looked at me. Her phone beeped and she removed her attention away from me. “Uhm...Tracy. You might want to see this” she said. “What?” I asked uninterestedly. “Here” she handed her phone over to me. I checked and my eyes widened. “Are you kidding???” I screamed standing up. “Congratulations baby” Ari smiled genuinely at me. I have just Been offered the job. I was selected. This must be a dream. “Oh my God!” I screamed again wiping the tears that was falling off my eyes. “Calm down girl” Ari laughed. “Tears of joy. Tears of joy” I said as they kept falling. I’m to resume work on Monday. This still feels like a dream. ****** “Wow, I’m happy for you. I told you you would get it” Stephanie said. I went to the restaurant the next day to tell her like I promised. “Thank you. I didn’t have enough confidence” I told her. “I believed in you” She smiled. “Thank you. Thanks a lot” “I need to get back to work before my boss catches me here” I gave her the paper and pen I brought. “Write your digits down. I will chat you up when I get my phone” I said and she wrote down her number. “See you later, T,” she said and rushed into the restaurant. I would Have started working here too if I hadn’t given the company a trial. I was leaving when I bumped into someone and I heard a c***k on the floor. My eyes widened when I saw it was an iPhone and it has a little scratch. I looked up at the person and I could swear he look familiar. “It’s you” He said and I remembered him immediately. The guy I met at the grocery shop and technician shop. I bent to pick up the phone but he beat me to it. “I’m so so sorry” I apologized cursing myself for not watching where I was going. “It was a mistake and I am sorry. I don’t even know how I would be able to fix this” I groaned. He looks at me. “You can pay for this...you know?” He said and my heart skipped. “With your number” he completed. “Huh” “You heard me. Let me have your number. It’s funny this is the third time we would meet and I think it would be great if we are friends” “Oh okay...” He handed the phone to me and I input my digit in. “Your phone, have you collected it?” “No. I will..later this week” I lied. “Okay. I will text you...I didn’t get your name?” “Tracy, you?” “Dylan” “Great name” I wanted to say but I don’t want to make a fool out of myself so I just nodded. “See you later then” he said with a half smile and walked into the restaurant. “Wow, he is cute!” I muttered to myself biting my lips. I was happy. A guy hasn’t like hit on me for months now and it feels like I’m not pretty anymore. I was more concentrated on my job hunt I didn’t think about that. ********** Ari and I just came back from the boutique. Earlier today, Ari told me she wants to take me out and we landed at a boutique. In her words, she said I needed new wears for my new work and told me to pick anything I want. She was been too nice but Ari have always been. Even though I refused to do what she is doing, she still takes me as a friend. Surprisingly, she asked we stopped at the technician's phone and she paid for the balance of the phone. The phone was working already. When I asked her why. Her reply was. “Duh, you need a phone. Besides, you have a source of income now and you won’t have to depend on me anymore. It’s worth giving you” She said and I hugged her happily. After dinner, I went to my room and brought out my phone. I contemplated on checking out the CEO of Kingston but I decided otherwise. It was just me hallucinating that other day. I would confirm it myself on Monday. I texted Stephanie first. No messages from Dylan. Just great. Why did he collect my number when he won’t even text me!? _____________ ON MONDAY... It was finally the day. My first day at work. I woke up super early. First impression matters. I’m going to be meeting with the Ceo I would be meeting for the first time. I need to make him like me so I won’t end up like his other assistants. I got dressed in a corporate clothe I got from the boutique during the week. I combed my hair and let it fall and looked at myself in the mirror. “You can do this!” I told myself. After getting all the necessary things, I left the house and boarded a taxi. I got to the company and entered. I was directed to the CEO’s office. I asked the staff and she told me he arrived already. My heart jumped. I thought I was early enough. I took the elevator clutching my purse tightly. The elevator stopped and I walked over to his office. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. “Come in” a deep and familiar voice said. I opened the door and entered. The room was big and spacious. I had no time to observe the office well as my eyes moved to the CEO’s seat. He was operating his laptop and has his full attention on it. “Good morning” I started nervously. He looked up and I felt numb for a minute. It was really him. I wasn’t imagining it the Other day. “Ace?” I asked in shock. “How May I help you?” He asked coldly. “I’m Your new Assistant” I said as it felt like I was dreaming. “Your name?” “Are you kidding me? It’s me Tracy. Am I dreaming? This isn’t a dream. It’s really you, Ace” I said. “I should fire you on this spot but I will spare you because it’s your first day. First rule, Don’t call me by my name or your stay here is limited” he said with an expressionless face and my stomach knotted.
