James, the senior partner, was having me be true to my word to Jennifer. I had told her I was going to get her out of the lease of the mall she had her shop in and now I had to do it. In one day. In one meeting. Or I wouldn’t have a job to go back to. This felt worse than when I had to talk to Olavo or Juca. Daniel had set his expectations for me very very low. It was just a text message with “deliver this” or “say that”. And no ties. No ‘or else’. This was something else. James had been very clear the whole process. And all of that without any money involved. There would be no fat paycheck after this. Just the same old regular job. Which I needed very much.
