Chapter 30 - What is all this?
By the time I got back to the office, the hallway smelled like flowers. Expensive ones. That was unusual. I followed the scent to my desk and stopped at the monumental sight.
A bouquet. Huge. Not the kind anyone bought for birthdays or apologies. Lilies, orchids, something blue I couldn’t name. Wrapped in white silk paper and tied with a golden ribbon. Next to it sat a small velvet box. The card had no name.
Sarah appeared before I could touch it. “Well, someone is trying to get lucky.”
“Excuse me?”
She pointed. “Flowers and jewelry? Come on, that’s a date package if I ever saw one. You and Detective Valentine are getting serious, huh? Can I be your bridesmaid?”
“It’s not from Nick,” I said, but too fast.
