As Seraphim stood on the edge of the forest, the magic watch given to her by Thalia began to glow softly. She activated the watch, feeling a sudden rush as the world around her blurred and shifted.
In an instant, she found herself standing on the banks of a dark river, the air thick with the scent of death and decay. She knew immediately that she had arrived in the Underworld, the realm of the dead.
Before she could fully take in her surroundings, a figure appeared before her. It was Charon, the ferryman of the Underworld, his eyes cold and calculating as he regarded her.
"You do not belong here, mortal," Charon said, his voice like ice. "You are an intruder in the realm of the dead."
Seraphim swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew she was in danger, but she also knew that she could not turn back now.
"I seek passage to the cells," Seraphim said, her voice steady despite her fear. "I must find someone who is trapped here, someone I love."
Charon's eyes narrowed. "You will find no passage here, intruder. You will come with me."
With a wave of his hand, Charon summoned two of his guards, who seized Seraphim roughly and led her away. She was taken to a dark, damp cell and thrown inside, the heavy iron door slamming shut behind her.
Alone in the darkness, Seraphim felt a wave of despair wash over her. She was trapped, imprisoned in the Underworld with no way to escape. But she refused to give up hope. She had a mission, a purpose, and she would find a way to fulfill it.
As she sat in the darkness, Seraphim heard a voice from the cell next to hers. "Who's there?" the voice called out, filled with curiosity.
Seraphim approached the bars of her cell, peering into the darkness of the neighboring cell. "I am Seraphim," she replied. "I have come to find someone. His name is Valerius."
The voice fell silent for a moment, then spoke again, filled with surprise. "Valerius? I know of him. He is a prisoner here, like me."
Seraphim's heart skipped a beat. "Like you? Who are you?"
The figure in the neighboring cell moved closer to the bars, revealing himself to be a man with dark, brooding eyes. "My name is Rio. I, too, am trapped in this place, condemned to suffer for eternity."
Seraphim felt a surge of compassion for Rio. She knew that she could not abandon him, even as she sought to find Valerius.
"I will help you, Rio," Seraphim said, her voice filled with determination. "But first, I must find Valerius. Will you help me?"
Rio nodded, a flicker of hope in his eyes. "I will help you, Seraphim. Together, we will find a way to escape this place and look for that Valerius."
With that, Seraphim and Rio began to plan their escape, determined to find a way to free themselves from the darkness that threatened to consume them.
