Continuation (Chapter 4)

Sky’s rested he’s hands lightly on the table, his fingers drumming an unhurried rhythm. It was the kind of gesture that screamed patience but not the kind that gave comfort. It was the patience of a predator waiting for its prey to exhaust itself. “Cat got your tongue?” he asked, tilting his head slightly, his smirk unwavering. I forced myself to meet his gaze, though my palms were slick with sweat. “You don’t own me,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. His laugh was low, almost amused, and it sent a shiver down my spine. “You’re bold. I like that,” he said, leaning back in his chair, completely at ease. “But let’s not kid ourselves. You and I both know how this story goes.” “I left that life behind. Whatever deal was made is none of my business anymore” “ The debts, it’s not my responsibility. I’m not some object for you to claim.” Sky’s smile faded, and his icy blue eyes turned sharp, like shards of glass. “That’s where you’re wrong, Sylvia,” he said, his voice soft but laced with menace. “Promises were made. Debts were incurred , You were given to me as a bride to sort out all your family’s debt and I even paid more money to your stepmother, And unfortunately for you, those debts don’t just disappear because you ran to New York City, I am every where” My breath hitched. He knew. He knew everything where I worked, where I lived. The gifts, the notes… they weren’t from a place of love like I thought , they were warnings that I was his. “I am never going to marry someone like you”I said in a firm voice. Sky leaned towards me closing the same towards us , he’s eyes on me with an intensity that made my heart pound. “You think you have a choice?” he asked, his tone chillingly calm. “You don’t unless…” he said then paused , his lips curling into a smirk. “I’m not a monster at least not yet . You can come willingly, Sylvia. Make this easy on yourself.” “And if I don’t?” I whispered, hating how small my voice sounded. His smile widened, but there was no warmth in it. “Then I can make you.” He stood then, smoothing the front of his jacket as if this was just another casual conversation. “Think it over,” he said, his tone light, almost teasing now. “But don’t take too long. I’m a patient man, Sylvia, but even I have my limits.” He tossed a black card the table. As he turned to leave, I forced myself to speak. “Why me? Out of everyone, why did u have to come into my life, I don’t want to have anything to do with you and your world” Sky paused, his hand resting on the doorframe. He glanced back at me, his blue eyes glinting with something I couldn’t place something that almost looked like hunger. “It’s because I want you for myself ,” he said. And then he was gone. --- I didn’t leave the café for an hour. My hands were shaking, my heart racing, I was still shocked. When I finally worked up the courage to go outside, the city felt different. The streets that had once felt alive and vibrant now seemed colder, darker. Every shadow looked like a threat, every stranger like a spy sent by him. I ran back to my apartment, i slide the deadbolt into place. But still I didn’t feel safe after locking the door. His words rang like a bell in my head: “You’re mine.” I dropped to the ground, my back against the door, and started crying. What am I going to do now? He was right I couldn’t run forever. But I couldn’t go back, either. I pulled out my phone, templating if I should call Alex’s number. He was the only person I could think to call, the only one who might understand. But what could I even say? “Hey, Alex, turns out my secret admirer is a Mafia Boss who’s been hunting me down for years. Help?” No. I couldn’t involve him into this. I have to fix this myself But as I sat there, alone, realized something scary: Sky had all the power now, he found me now, I can’t run away this time.
