Twenty-seven Cody The sun was blinding. I blinked, peering into the distance. A pair of flashing red and blue lights peaked on the horizon. I fingered the keys in my pocket. For a moment, I thought about jumping in my truck and taking off. Would’ve been no use. There was nowhere to go. And I’d never see Cassie again for sure.
