“I’ll take the three million and sign the divorce papers,” I said quietly.
The decision felt heavy, but I held onto one thought, this wasn’t the end. With that money, I could rebuild. And if Paul never came back, I would still have something to stand on.
A ripple of murmurs spread across the room, His parents reacted immediately, their displeasure clear as they stamped their feet, but Paul only looked satisfied.
He clapped once, a smug smile on his face. “Good choice. Let’s finish this.”
Tonia left and returned moments later with a set of documents, handing them to him without a word. Paul stretched the papers toward me. “Sign,” he said. “You will get the money right after.”
My fingers trembled as I took them. I tried to glance through the pages, but his voice cut in sharply. “Sign it now.”
Everyone was watching, I didn’t think, I signed. When I handed the papers back, I lifted my chin slightly. “Transfer the money.”
Paul went still for a second, then he laughed. “You just gave away everything you own,” he said. “And you’re asking for money?”
My heart dropped. “What are you talking about?” I whispered.
“Read what you signed,” he replied casually. “You don’t have anything left.”
Stella clapped beside him, smiling brightly. “That was perfect. I almost thought you were serious about paying her.”
“You tricked me, you tricked me.” I said repeatedly.
The words hit, but they felt distant. All I could feel was the moment everything slipped away. “You have ten minutes,” he said flatly. “Pack whatever you need and leave.”
“No,” I said, shaking my head as tears fell. “I’m not going anywhere.” My voice rose despite the tightness in my chest. “This is my house. You can’t just throw me out.”
“You’ve served your purpose,” he said flatly, like I was something disposable. “There’s no reason for you to stay here anymore.”
He snapped his fingers. Immediately, guards stepped forward. My heart dropped. “I change my mind, throw her out.”
“No, wait. You can’t throw me out. This is my house!” My voice cracked as I stumbled back.
The guards reached me before I could process it, gripping my arms and lifting me off the ground. My feet kicked helplessly as I struggled.
“This is wickedness!” I cried out. “You won’t get away with this, I promise you?”
Stella stepped closer, unfazed. “You’re actually good at starting over,” she said with a smirk. “Go do it again.” She tilted her head. “Too bad you won’t be around to see my wedding to the famous Lycan Derek. You can watch it on the news anyways.”
And then I was dragged out and thrown outside like I meant nothing, the gates slammed shut behind me and the guards given warning never to let me in.
I hit them again and again, screaming until my voice broke, until the guards drove me back into the darkness and warned I was never to return. Eventually, I was left alone.
The night swallowed me whole, I had nowhere to go and no one to call. I walked blindly, tears blurring everything in front of me until the world became nothing but shapes and shadows.
Then I collided with something solid and I fell hard onto the ground. Blinking through my tears, I looked up. Three rogues stood over me, their expressions were wrong. Hungry and smirking at him.
“Well, what do we have here?” one of them said, licking his lips.
My blood ran cold. “Please… don’t hurt me,” I whispered.
They closed in, one grabbed me, forcing me down as panic surged through my body. I fought, kicking, screaming, praying and begging the Moon Goddess for help as their grip tightened.
One of them reached out to drag my shirt , but my hands shot out instinctively and grabbed his neck tight, I got up and lifted him off the floor, I looked at my hand and was surprised to see it covered in furs, my eyes went wide.
I slashed his neck, his body went limp immediately, I shifted back, I never believed I could do this in a thousand years.
something inside me snapped, a sharp pain exploded through my body, my bones felt like they were breaking and rebuilding at once. I cried out, collapsing as heat surged under my skin.
My vision blurred then sharpened in a way that wasn’t human. Power surged through me like a storm finally unleashed. Two other rogues rushed towards me after seeing what I did to their friend. I killed them right there.
After killing them, I was about to celebrate the presence of my wolf when my knee buckled and I felt completely weak. I looked at my hands and realized I had shifted back into human form—no fur, no claws.
Anger surged through me. How could my wolf come out for the first time since I was born and then go completely silent again?
“I am right here,” it said inside my head, and I shivered in shock.
“I am just too weak to shift or do anything else you need me to do. I only came out because you needed me so much and have been too pathetic lately,” she said with anger.
Why was she angry? We had just met.
“I have been angry with you for years, I just couldn’t come out,” she continued. “You lack confidence and you allow stupid people into our life because of it, you keep choosing those who don’t deserve you. You almost pleaded with that moron to take you back after everything he put you through.” Her words stung.
“I didn’t have a choice,” I shot back, my voice tight. “I was born with an ugly mark on my face. What do you expect? You don’t understand the rejection I’ve faced all my life, even from my parents.”
“You are beautiful the way you are,” she said. “Besides, you do not understand the power you possess. Do you know you are the only wolf on earth who has the ability to break a mate bond and also bond yourself to anyone you choose?”
My breath caught. “That’s impossible,” I whispered. “Only the Moon Goddess can do that.”
“And yet, you can,” she said calmly.
My heart began to race. “I… I can really do that?”
“Of course. You also have other powers which include—”
I cut her off immediately as an idea formed in my mind.“I’ll hear the rest later,” I said quickly, pushing myself up despite the weakness in my body.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
I steadied myself, determination replacing the fear in my eyes. “I’m going back,” I said. “To my house, I need to do whatever it takes for them to take me back.”
