By the time I reached C&C, power had been fully restored and the reinforced doors opened. Outside, rows of unarmoured and wounded soldiers lay shouting, screaming, and cursing the German Volk insurgents. Many more lay silent, unmoving.
After passing the security scan, I found C&C in its natural state of chaos as the many operators and analysts bustled around and the various big screens on the main wall showed dozens of combat situations in real-time. As I searched for Mad Jack to report, I kept checking the different feeds from soldiers’ body cameras, hoping to spot a glimpse of a familiar face.
“Private Loughlin,” the colonel said after accepting my salute. “Well done. How do you feel, soldier?”
“I’m eager to re-join my section, sir.”
