Daphne’s POV I watched silently as the doctor treated Anna’s burns. The guilt twisted in my chest—it was my fault. I should have been more careful with the soup. Now Anna was hurt… because of me. “I’ve given her something to help her sleep, so she won’t feel any pain,” the doctor said, snapping off his gloves. “She’ll be fine.” Relief washed over me, but only slightly. “I’ll be leaving now,” he added, giving me an odd glance as he passed. I stayed outside the room, just watching Miles sit beside Anna’s bed. My heart sank further. I turned away and went back to our bedroom. As soon as I sat down on the bed, the weight of it all came crashing down. Miles had yelled at me. Anna had accused me. I know it was a mistake—why would she say otherwise?
