Miles’s POV I ran a hand through my hair, trying to calm the storm rising in my chest. But I couldn’t. My pulse was pounding. My thoughts were spiraling. This can’t be true. Anna… she wasn’t lying? Could it really be them—my parents? No. No, that’s impossible. They wouldn’t—they couldn’t—do something so despicable. But deep down… I wasn’t so sure anymore. Everything I believed in was cracking, and I was terrified of what might lie beneath the surface. But one thing was certain—I couldn’t let Daphne go any deeper. Not with this. Not with the truth that might break her. “Daphne,” I said softly, forcing a smile as I leaned toward her, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “You should leave this to me, okay? I’ll do the investigating.” Her eyes searched mine, full of tired trust.
