Chapter fifteenXyl came back from her mindless daze as the shaft of bright light was lifting them upward, to find herself held against living warmth. Arms held her close, kept her from falling. It was a long moment before she remembered why there was a growing hot pressure in her head and the lack of sensation throughout her body. In fact, for several seconds she had trouble remembering where she was and how she’d gotten there. Then memory clicked back into gear and she pulled away a little as the sunlike light winked out. She struggled to her feet.
Already her vision was starting to go. White lines of static were creeping around the edges of her visual field.
