Andreas wondered about Kelly's absence in her first period, and by the time it was noon, he was nearly delirious with worry. At lunch, he finally decided to call her mother.
“Is Kelly sick?” He asked the moment she answered.
“No,” Karen responded, “not sick. She's hit a pole this morning on her way to the high school.”
