chapter 6-a stranger visits

1408 Words
In the dark, ancient forest on the outskirts of their tribe's lands, the six Lycan brothers; Adrian, Isaac, Gabriel, Caleb, Silas, and Aaron, were deep in discussion. They stood in the heart of the Lycan territory, thriving in the quiet company of the trees under a luminous, full moon. The night had fallen and the beast inside them called for the hunt, but the matter at hand needed to be resolved before they could fully embrace their feral side."We can't keep living like this, always on the lookout, always hiding," Isaac, the eldest brother, spoke in a somber tone, the silver moonlight glinting off his dark, unruly hair. He gripped the cold bark of an ancient oak, his large hand dwarfing it, as if the tree were grasping him right back."You always think of the burden on us, the younger siblings," Caleb, the strong, spontaneous brother, said as he jabbed a finger towards Isaac, the frown creasing his handsome features. "Remember, none of us chose this life. It chose us."He's right, brother," Adrian, the middle sibling and the calmest of the six, added, his eyes never leaving the darkness beyond the circle of moonlight. His usually serene face was tainted with worry, concern etched deep into the plains of his forehead. "What can we do, then?" Silas, the quiet twin and the group's strategist, asked, pensive and thoughtful. His emerald eyes shone with the fire of determination, steady as a rock."I know it's been some time since Father cared or even remembered about the family," Gabriel, the charismatic and gregarious brother, chimed in, his eyes cast down in thought. "But surely, it's time we took matters into our own hands."He'd never approve," Aaron, the youngest brother, murmured, his voice quivering slightly. "He'll be disappointed. I'm scared." His dark, expressive eyes glistened with unshed tears in the faint light of the moon.Noble intentions and fear danced within their eight eyes, each reflecting the endless struggle between loyalty to the Alpha and desire for freedom. As the Alpha's own bloodline, the six brothers and their sister, Evelyn, were destined to rule the Lycan pack, but it was different for Evelyn. As the only female child in their lineage, the choice of Prince or Princess was never hers, unlike her brothers'.As if their discussion had summoned the storm, a sudden gust of wind swept through the forest, whispering through the fallen autumn leaves. In its wake, a shadowy figure emerged, cloaked all in black, standing tall and grim, undeterred by the brothers' stares."A visitor," Caleb whispered, his voice echoing almost instinctively. In response to this new development, the brothers closed in together in an easy brotherly formation, ready to reveal their sharp, dangerous fangs at the slightest provocation to their territory. "Princes of the Lycan bloodline, I greet you," the figure began, his tone soft and measured. With a quick sweep of his hood, his features were revealed, and the Lycan brothers found themselves looking upon a face as old as time - their long-lost uncle, the Betrayer, Romulus.A tense silence befell the glade as the brothers' eyes met, confusion and fury blending together in their eyes as they remembered who they were addressing. Hundreds of years of anger and betrayal surged through their veins, as did, perhaps, a hint of curiosity. From their father's tales, they knew that Romulus was an unpredictable, ruthless soul, once a valuable warrior but ultimately a force of destruction. He was a wolf nobody wanted to tangle with, and, arguably, one that it was foolish to accept a benediction from."Why have you come?" Silas asked, his voice cold and calculating, masking the roiling emotions that lurked beneath the icy surface."I've come to warn you of a threat from within," Romulus replied, his tone hard and unyielding. "Your father's grip on his own pack is loosening, and the only way to liberate yourselves is to strike while he's weak."Adrian, the thinker, found his voice amidst the chaos of thoughts and images swirling about in his head. "How can we trust someone who, according to legend, tried to bring down our father?"Because I know that the same blood runs through your veins," Romulus replied, a sly smile creeping across his gaunt, scarred face. "That makes you worthy of the truth." His statement was punctuated by a sinister chuckle that echoed through the night. "Besides, I have an offer that might pique your interest. The puppet master who stood behind your father all these years, pulling the strings of your kingdom, has stolen the Luna Scepter - a precious relic imbued with the power of your lineage. It's time to take back what's rightfully yours and unleash the true power of the Lycan bloodline."As Silas, the tactician, began to form a plan to uncover the real culprit behind their father's slow decline, Romulus merely chuckled once again."I see you're already plotting your next move, Silas, but remember, I've been doing this for centuries. Trust me when I say that we're not the only ones seeking the Luna Scepter. My own crew has encountered fierce enemies along the way - shape-shifters, vampires, witches, and even a rogue wolf who holds a personal vendetta against our father."Why would you reveal all this to us now?" Gabriel asked, his eyes narrowing into slits, the golden hue reflecting his carnal need to destroy their father's enemies."Because I have nothing to lose," Romulus answered, his voice low and desperate, brimming with an intensity that was felt by everyone within its reach. "I might have orchestrated the rebellion against my brother many moons ago, but it's time for a second chance. It's time to embrace the true power of the Lycan bloodline.""You call for unity, yet you turned your back on us once before," Adrian declared, the tension palpable as his brothers nodded in agreement."It was not that I didn't have faith in the sons of the mighty Lycan Alpha," Romulus said, his voice on the cusp of breaking. "We were mere pawns in a much larger game, mere puppets dancing on the strings of fate."The brothers exchanged a series of glances, silently weighing the risks and rewards of accepting their estranged uncle's proposition. As they pondered their decision, a blood-curdling howl echoed through the dark forest, interrupting their mental deliberation.Isaac bolted upright, his eyes instantly alert as he peered into the void. The other brothers stiffened, each waiting for any signs of an approaching threat."If I may be so bold, that's the howl of the Alpha," Romulus spoke up, casting a seemingly nonchalant gaze through the haunting shadows."What do you know?" Silas demanded, his slender, nimble fingers flexing slightly in anticipation."If you truly seek to unravel the truth of your heritage and family, you must remember that this plight runs much deeper than just a stolen relic. You are Lycans, and as Lycans, you'll face the alpha head on when the time is right. But whether you'll triumph or end up devoured by your own kin remains to be seen."With that, the old, scarred wolf vanished as mysteriously as he had arrived, no longer a presence to the Lycan brothers. The brothers stood in the silence that followed, allowing themselves a few uneasy moments to absorb the new reality that they had been thrown into. Despite the fraught air around them, they stood collectively strong, each one displaying the unwavering fury of a Lycan. As the resounding, final echo of the Alpha's howl melded with the distant hooting of owls and the rustling of leaves, their minds raced to answer the questions that their uncle and their father had left them with. The scales of fate had tipped, and the storm that had been brewing over their lives was finally on the brink of consuming them all.The silent exchange of glances between the brothers revealed the connection they’d maintained - the bond they had forged over countless battles, hunts, and shared trials. This was their destiny now. They had to act, to forge a future for all Lycan kind and put an end to the turmoil within their ranks. Together, the brothers decided that they would stop at nothing to bring the truth to light - even if it meant confronting their own father and finding the Luna Scepter through countless traps and treacherous allies.the brothers' objective was clear: to defy the Alpha's expectations, rise above the myths surrounding their family, and reclaim the birthright of the mighty Lycan bloodline. The war for Lycan destiny had truly begun.
