CHAPTER TWENTY THREE
"Jack, do you want to hang out?" Beatrice asks, as she calls him. All she could think about was Mark and how he left without informing her. "uh, sure we can hang out" Jack replied on the other line surprised at the fact that she called to ask him on a date and not about the rumours and the whole scandal issues, he just- he is perplexed.
"She didn't ask about the scandal, she just asked if we could hang out." Jake says to his sister as he turns over to her, standing up and holding out his phone.
"She might want to use the scandal and rumors to her gain and what if she uses you to build popularity and all that, Gambling with the rich is a bad game, a very bad one." His sister, twin sister Jenny answered her cheery brother with her ice cold statement.
"Or she just needs a friend amidst all this, or maybe to take her mind things, you know she is a nice person I can guarantee it." Jake says as he smiles and sits down. His hands are on the screen as he bit his lips, he giggled.
"Whatever, it's a dangerous game but yeah you are right, you can be a friend to her." Jenny replies sarcastically as she closes her eyes and opens them, she sighs momentarily.
"hang out, yeah and since the media on your tail and paparazzi too, just wear something simple, your white tee and a black joggers, not only is it hot, it's sexy too at least to some girls and take our car, that one." Jenny continues as she points to the car keys at the edge of the shelf, her hands at her hips as she rolled her eyes, worried about her twin but she had a rush of excitement, she wants to see how this ends and at least her twin should enjoy every moment.
"Nice, you are a life saver." Jack says as he climbs the stairs, he ran through the stairs.
she watched how he ran through the stairs, fully aware that he will work things with Beatrice, ever since the death of their parents, she has always been watching her twin and how he has been coping, she became her own parent and his.
Jenny sighs and turns over to her laptop. she smiles as she sees the family photo from ten years ago.
"He is all grown up, and ready for a new relationship." Jenny says as she touches her laptop screen.
A pop up shows, something she wish could get forgotten, a memory she wants to be erased. A song she wished she never heard.
Jenny stares at the screen and closes her laptop. her heart becomes heavy as she goes straight to the bathroom, unsure of what to feel.
"it has been five years, why am I still affected?" Jenny says out loud as she sits and covers her face, the strings of tears fall down carefully as she closes her eyes, a picture she thought she had deleted but I guess she didn't.
A picture of her and Dale, her ex fiancee, her first love, her only love. They were to get married and be together, Jenny was two months pregnant. she was.
Two weeks to their wedding, he suddenly ghosted, no texts, no calls, nothing, none of his friends could reach him, even his family.
A lady suddenly called and texted, she called and asked if she was Jenny, she said she was with him, they are seven months pregnant, they are not in Delhi anymore and they- they are married.
Of course Jenny didn't believe her, she couldn't dare believe her.
Jenny hung up immediately, soon she received different texts. The call she hid from her twin and parents when there were still alive.
Her phone buzzed so many times, she had to check it. She saw pictures of her fiancee, Dale and the new lady. A video of when they were making out and her protruded belly, Dale was with smiles and turns out, this lady and Dale has been together for years. She eventually told her parents after two months, the pain she felt made her quiet, the bubbly Jenny who made everyone smile with her childless and her quirkiness, her smile was the prettiest, so was her personality.
After Dale, she changed, she faked the smiles and still hung out at least, she tried to forget him and she did well.
Six months after, Their parents had an accident. Jenny became quiet, she cut off all her friends, she didn't speak to anyone expect her twin, she lost weight and barely ate.
She worked remotely as a writer, she never replied messages or the comments, never did post her picture. She- she was in her depression phase and her brother knew and understood, he was in law school then, he juggled her and his life and thankfully. He did well.
Jenny, never spoke about Dale neither did Jack..
As she saw the picture pop up, it gave her a rush or emotions, it feels like all she ever did to try and forget him was hopeless.
She sighed and rubbed her hands. Raking her hair. She stood up and left the toilet, her eyes were swollen, her heart was heavy, she needed to cry more. she has too, her breathing pattern increased, she felt the surface of goosebumps, her heart ran fast. She walked up to her room.
"Hey sis, I am on my way okay? I look so damn attractive right now." Jack said all pumped up as he smiled and jumped, He applied his perfume. He rubbed his hands and powered his face. Jack is extra meticulous about his appearance and what he smelled like, he was always detailed even to the tiniest part.
"Okay, be safe and yes no funny games." Jenny yelled out from her room, she tried to hard to muffle her words, she didn't want her brother to find out about her tears.
"Bye." He said as he slammed the door and left.
Like a baby; Jack was in smiles.
