Finally, after a while of walking, we reached the highway. The asphalt stretched out in front of us, and an instant relief washed over me. But the adrenaline coursing through our veins wouldn't let me relax completely. Even after what we'd just done, I was still exhilarated; however, the fear of those men finding us was overwhelming, and now we needed to get out of this place.
I raised my arm, waving to the first car that approached. But it just whizzed by, so fast that I could barely discern its color. I looked at Luke, who, despite beginning to get frustrated, was still trying to remain calm.
