A shiver went down my spine as I remembered that night. It seemed like so long ago, and I could barely believe that it had only been a month since I lost my mother to these rogues. Recalling every detail of that night, my wolf suddenly brought me back to the present as she spoke “We’ve waited too long. Any longer and they’ll close the bunker. We must get to safety now.” Trusting her instincts, I ran for the basement stairs, but stopped in my tracks when a small voice cried out for help. Starting with the nearest, I searched each room until finally coming upon a young she-wolf and her pup. The child could not have been more than a year old, and screamed for my attention as soon as it saw me. The mother was petrified, frozen in terror, and clutching the squirming babe. “Snap out of it!” I screamed, and then pulled the pup from her arms. “We must get to the bunker now!” She blinked, realized what was happening, got to her feet and began to follow me. I knew that by now the bunker would be closed and sealed from the inside. Protocols stated that a handful of warriors would be stationed inside the bunker, to close it twenty minutes after the order was given. They would be responsible for make sure that it remained sealed until the danger had passed. We were well beyond the time limit, so instead we made our way to my father’s office as quickly as possible.
