Chapter 19 The Discovery

2537 Words
Kameron's POV We get down from the attic, closing it all up after a long and no clue finding time, in that hot enclosed space. It's too hot with their being no windows up there, so to say I'm happy to be out of there is a complete understatement. I'm just happy I'm not claustrophobic because that attic would have probably been my worst nightmare if I was.. We walk down each floor gathering the people as we pass by making sure they know to finish up what they were doing and then head down with us. We make it down to the main meeting area once again awaiting for everyone to arrive as they all slowly get back one by one. I'm getting impatient awaiting for the rest to arrive but I don't hear or see any signs of them coming our way at all. We keep waiting but my lady, her father, both her brothers along with Lydia are not here still. Maybe they lost track of time. I start to tap my toe impatiently as I feel the anxiousness hitting my mind like a whirl wind causing my thoughts to wonder what has happened to all of them on so many levels, as I try to keep my cool and calm myself. Sometimes I just get caught up in my thoughts as they completely take over, making my mind a prison so I have to learn to cut those thoughts off before they become too overwhelming. I finally hear something catching my attention, it is Vincent and Vance running up to us out of breath as they are now bent over trying to calm their breathing to get a word out edge wise. "What happened are you guys ok? and where is Lydia?" I ask in a panic as my heart races in anticipation for their answer.. because I have never seen them act like this.. ever. "I don't know." Vance says with panic in his voice. The confusion hits all of us as Richard asks, "What do you mean you don't know?" "The lights went out and we heard her squeal as she said she tripped in the darkness until she disappeared in the wall. By the time we got our flashlights wound up and going, she was gone but yelling on the other side of the wall.. She said she fell into the wall and we tried to find her or at the least figure out how she got there and we just couldn't figure it out." Vincent explains as I look at the both of them trying to decifer if this is true or not. But by the looks on their faces it does look like they are just as shocked as we are and telling the truth. "Ok.. can you show me where this happened?" I ask, as Vincent and Vance nod vigorously.. they wave for us to follow them to the basement before taking off in a haste. We make our way through the back rooms until we get to a set of stairs that lead into a darkness.. and just knowing that the darkness has somehow already consumed Lydia, it just makes this area so much creepier than it probably has to be.. while being accompanied by the erie silence of the multiple people following behind me. I swallow the lump in my throat as I wind-up the flashlight and start my transition down to the next level. "Well Emily always spoke of secret passageways or rooms in this place as if it was some sort of joke but maybe she was serious." Barbera states for us to her as I humm in response remembering Gramma saying things like that as well. We get to the bottom of the stairs hesitantly as I just keep my light shining on Vincent and Vance in front of me, who are still leading the way. We get through a couple storage areas of extra furnature and more items for outside, just passing them by. The lights start to flicker on and off giving us a little better view of our surroundings. I take a quick look around as I don't see anything out of the ordinary. They flicker off once more followed by a boom of thunder that just shakes the ground under our feet. I see the beams of lights illuminating the area up more, coming on one by one right after the sounds of winding up flashlights in unison. We continue to follow the guys through the rooms as they come to a small area, almost hallway to the next storage room. They stop and turn to the blank wall as Vincent retorts. "This is about where she was when the lights went off and where I heard her yelling from on the other side.. but I could barely hear her.. so it could be anywhere along this wall but right around here is the best I've got for you." I nod in response to Vincent's explanation, putting the flashlight closer to the wall trying to check out the details as best as I can. Nothing looks out of the ordinary here either. I trace my hands along the creases of the bricks in the wall.. nothing happens. I press down on the bricks and of course nothing else happens either. I decide to press my ear to the wall but I can't hear anything. There is nothing on the wall hiding any other clues either, I just don't understand it. Everyone starts looking around at the walls with me, trying to find some kind of clue, indication of what could have happened to her. "How can people just keep disappearing with no indication of why or where?" I ask to no one in particular as I hear a sound on the other side. I press my ear to the wall and it sounds like Violet and her father. "Violet?!" I yell through the wall but no response.. "Violet?!" I yell again banging on the wall until I hear a longer pause then wanted.. After another long moment it's followed by her screaming a blood curdling scream that shot through my body. I bang harder on the wall trying to figure out how to get to her. She needs me and now! I look around as I think about what they said. "You said she tripped before she got lost right?" I ask as I start kicking around the ground for anything to catch on my foot and hopefully that will open this up for me. Violet's POV I get my flashlight wound up and positioned so it's facing in front of me to light up my path. I can see my father in front of me but he quickly turns the corner as I try to speed up my pace but I can only go so fast with my cast and filled up arms. I finally get to the corner and turning as I light up the dark path once more. I can see my father who is looking around a dark room that's as big as a closet. There isn't much in there but I can see a door. I watch him open it slowly to see the billiards room we were just in. He shuts it as he turns and continues walking down the path but out of my line of sight. I hurry, following him again as I come to stairs that are descending into a dark abyss that honestly gives me the heebee jeebees.. Sending a chill directly up my spine at the thought of going down there. "Are you coming Vi?" I hear my father ask from the bottom of them as he turns his light up to me, showing his location at the bottom. "Yea I'm coming, it will just take me a second, you can go on without me if you don't want to wait because I'll be right behind you." I say down to him as I slowly take one step at a time to get down to that next level. I get down there and I don't see my father but it's just a straight route down a hallway so no where else to go I guess. I keep limping and hopping my way down to try to catch up, just looking at the bricked walls that look so old degrading from the years of the wear and tear abuse. "Vi? Where you at? Do you need help?" My father asks from the dark room at the end of the hallway. I can see his light flashing and bouncing around the room as he looks around. "No I'm right here." I yell back as I hear "Violet?!" from the other side of the wall. I must be hearing things because that sounded like Kameron. I didn't think that me only being down here for a short span of time would already start the illusions in my head but I guess the darkness along with the creepy tone down here just works wonders. "Violet?!" I hear again as I turn and trip, gasping as I reach for anything and everything around me to keep me from falling. But all I can grip is something cold but feels like a jacket as I pull but I still end up falling to the ground taking it with me. It's heavy to the point that I can't even pick it up off of me. What is it? I can't tell.. I can feel furr of sorts on it, so I guess it must be a jacket on a jacket rack or something like that. It's pitch dark in here now with my flashlight and crutch flying out of my grip making this way more difficult then it has to be. "Violet are you ok?" My father asks as I groan and respond. "I think so I just fell and I can't see where my things are." I say reaching around the floor trying to find my flashlight that I have dropped who knows where. "Ok I'll head your way with light.. let me wind mine back up to help with a brighter light." He says to me as I hear the winding sound a little bit away. I keep feeling around the floor just in my surrounding area that's of course in arms reach. I reach out more and I think I can feel it at the tips of my fingers, "I found my flashlight." I update my father, as I grip it then winding it up until the light shines directly into my eyes, blinding me for a moment. I turn it away to give my eyes a second, blinking continously, to adjust since it's not in my face anymore, just so I can see what heavy obstacle is keeping me from standing. I gasp then scream at the sight before me, I see Samantha and Lydia's dead bodies laying on top of me. There is no light in their eyes only looking dull as a stone and feeling like a heavy boulder. The bodies are completely limp, contorted in the creepiest positions like an exaggerated scene from some scary movie as they weigh me down. I can't seem to tear my gaze from their dead eyes as I struggle under their weight, screaming louder than before, because of every move I make, the more their bodies lay on me. It's like I'm in quicksand getting stuck more, the more I move. With my one broken ankle that I can't move, because it seems to have their lifeless frames laying on top, pinning it down to the ground. I don't want to lean in and touch them honestly.. so without using my hands, I try to get my other leg out from under them but with no success.. I'm stuck screaming out for help as I feel the uncontrollable shaking hitting my body as the silent tears fall down my cheeks because of the shock hitting me like a brick wall, as I continue to try to kick them off. With no apparent success at all in sight, I try to look away so I'm not haunted forever by this view. I hear a door open, accompanied by Kameron yelling my name as he runs to my side with everyone else behind him. He gets to me as he sees my predicament. Grabbing from under my armpits and pulling me up then out from my bodied prison as quickly as he can. He pulls me into his comforting embrace as I cry and shake in his hold. He holds me tight letting out a deep breath as he rubs my back trying to calm my freaking out body. "Shhhh Vi you're ok baby I'm here." He says into my ear. "Well it looks like we found Samantha and Lydia.. but what does this mean?" James asks us but no one knows what to say in response. There is an awkward silence that fills the room until it's broken by Brad. "This means to me that no one is safe." Brad states to everyone as I suck in a sharp breath nuzzling into a Kameron's hold just wanting some type of comfort. I hear Kameron lecture my father. "Where were you Peter? You said you would take care of her and here she is getting trapped under two dead bodies screaming for dear life and you were no where near her." "Hey don't blame me, I had nothing to do with that.. she asked me to go on without her and I just went down the hall and into the room but I never saw those bodies I don't know how all this happened. But I was headed back to her as this happened." my father retorts as I explain between gasps for air and sniffling into Kameron's broad chest. "I told him to go on because I was just walking down behind him and it was just taking me a minute since I'm going slow. when I got down the hall I heard you yelling at me and I tripped over something when I was looking back trying to see where your voice was coming from. When I fell I grabbed for anything to help me not fall and I guess I grabbed onto these two in the pitch black around me. Because I fell to the ground in the darkness with a weight on me holding me down but I didnt know what since I couldnt see. So I found my flashlight and when I turned it on I saw their dead faces staring at me.. and you know the rest." I hear him let out another deep breathe. "Brad is right.. this means no one is safe. we need to get out of here. Let's get back up to the meeting area and we will try to figure out what our next step should be. Peter can you lead us the way back?" Kameron asks as he swoops me up again into his arms as I hold on tight not wanting to let go after that. "Yes follow me." My father says leading the way for the group to follow.
