Chapter 16

Inside the rather spacious computer room at least four brains had come to a complete stop.. just when Ethan put up his hand ready to get his thoughts together the door behind them opened, and a slender man with ash white hair dressed all in black stepped into the room. “ I am so sorry to interrupt you Granny but I need to know if you would like me and a few others to go out to the border and collect a few of those armored vehicles for later usage.

We still have a bit of room in the underground garage and I’m sure the forest would appreciate us picking up what it considers useless trash off the forest floor.

“ Of course, just wait a few minutes for their troops to get here. They need the proper lessons on how to approach the forest respectfully anyway. And it will be good for transporting any of their injured as well.”

“He backed out with a small bow. “Yes, Nonna.”

“Still so formal with me.”

“It’s a sprite thing.” With those words he turned left outside of the room.

“ Now that, that’s settled. Ethan you where about to ask something?

“ yes. How is it our mate caused that “Devastation?

Mikolai jumped in, “Besides that, why would she do that? And besides, you said this was blessed land! I have never heard of the Goddess’s blessings manifesting in the way we just witnessed!”

“ yes, your mate did that, as for the why, she was defending me and her cubs.

“ Alexander looked gob smacked, I mean no disrespect mam, but she only had one child when she ran off!

“ oh my ! You really don’t know do you! Although I suppose that’s good, because if you didn’t know that means that awful Alpha Otis doesn’t know either.”

“ Alpha Otis is the one who put the hit out on our mate! Now we know who to kill!”

“ yes, but besides that she isn’t just running with a child . She’s with child, twins to be exact. Which is why it’s vital we stop her from using her blessings anymore than she absolutely has to. And it’s absolutely pivotal that she has her family and now that you’ve discovered her. Her mates by her Stefan cast a confused look her way. But it was Alexander who “We fully intend to catch up to our mate. I, for one, have already accepted her, but why is it so vital for the “Birthing?”

“Stefan, dear, if you wouldn’t mind going back on the home surveillance two weeks ago on Friday around 6:30 PM? And before you ask, no, I don’t mind if you record it as well.”

“Thank you.” He proceeded to furiously tap on the keyboard, pulling up surveillance of the Granny’s Jeep pulling up to the cabin. First, she hopped out, then she proceeded to open the back door of the jeep. Where a short but curvy girl hops out and reaches back in to grab a clearly young Baby.

As Nonna leads her up the steps, she begins to point out the security camera by the front door. It showed chocolate brown skin, thick albeit chapped lips from prolonged exposure to the elements. Long curly wine colored hair. But what stood out the very most was the purple eyes with kaleidoscope flecks Inside, Ethan whispered with wonder and pure adoration, “She has the Queen’s eyes.” Then Mikolai said with realization, “She’s the Queen’s cub! The king is going to kill us.”

“Followed by Stefan saying, ‘What a way to go. And is no one going to comment on just how adorable the cheeks on her baby are! I want to collect them all!’”

“I’m glad you have accepted your mate and cubs,” he said. All their faces suddenly turned serious” encouraging her to accept you may be a bit more difficult to do?”

“Why would that be?” The question came surprisingly from Miko.

“Because it ties into the Goddess blessings you just saw in the forest. Yes, it’s true that she begged for the Goddess to bless my land to protect me and anyone else I held precious.” which she considers me as pack ,since I cared for her, and her cubs. But, the Goddess choose to instruct the forest to pull punishments from within her mind . To say it more simply, what you saw were punishments pulled from her personal memories. She’s never seen a true mated pair before, what you just witnessed is what happens to those in her former pack that refused to reject each other at first sight!”

Chapter 17

Ethan couldn’t wrap his brain around what Nonna just told him. Just how much has his poor mate had to suffer in life? They need to catch up so he could make sure she never has to see such atrocious acts ever again.

Miko couldn’t help himself, he stormed out of the room will a deep seeded need to hit something a wall, a couch, a nice marble table. He reared back and punched with all his pint up frustration, causing a huge fist shaped crater to appear. His poor mate, he has been all over the kingdom seen so many things. But nothing of this scale in one place! And she’s had to live with that. It’s not right!

As a doctor Alex was accustomed to seeing the worst parts of what people were willing to do to each other, in fact his job was to find the worst damage and fix it. But he doesn’t know how to fix this. He’s at a total loss! But , for Somnia he’ll learn, he’ll try his best. The love of his life is at stake and he will fight for her with all he has.

Being the youngest of four sons, Stefan always felt like he got the short end of the stick, like he was always fighting to be seen and heard. But seeing what his mate has had to run from put things in perspective for him. He’s been given so much . Freedom to eat whenever he wanted. Being able to see and hear the love of many mated pairs, not just in his pack but many others. Yeah he hunts down bad guys for a living but what are you supposed to do when the bad guy is not only your alpha, but he makes it a point to ensure that no one else in the pack is in a position to ever feel safe and happy. He at least had that. His mate and cubs will also have that. He’s going to make sure of that.

One of the twins manning the cameras with Stefan turned around and dropped another unwanted bombshell on “Them. Also, there is something wrong with her gifts. Wait I think I said that wrong. Granny help.”

“ how about you guys show them the what happened the day she blessed our lands while we wait for Icor to finish waking up and that may explain some of it.

“ Ok.” The guys looked at the screen and saw Granny and Nia sitting down in a field of wildflowers watching Amber trying to take her first steps so she could chase a butterfly . You could hear Somnia and Granny attempting to speak with each other. By then Miko had come back into the room and he quietly asked “ why does her voice sound so…unused?

“ In her pack, the women are only allowed to speak to each other using sign language. Using your natural voice is considered to be disturbing the peace and is worthy of a punishment. She was practicing speaking aloud so Amber would know what she sounded like.”

“Amber ?”

“ the cub.”

“ mate trying to give our cub what she never had.” Miko’s bear said sadly.”

Suddenly you could see little Amber get hit in the neck by a tranquilizer dart. Nia jumped up and covered the babies body with her own, at the same time she reached up and snatched a dart out of the air that was aimed at Nonna’s arm, giving Nonna just enough time to get a handgun hidden in her waistband and start firing at the hitmen aiming for them.

By the time they had made back to the last tree near the cabin there had to have been at least seventy or more people all trying to get to Nia or Amber whoever they could reach first, and Nonna had taken several hits in the arms and legs. Nonna was bleeding profusely Nia didn’t know who to save first and then she just screamed at the sky “ Goddess please… I just want some peace for them! I just need my pack to have peace help me protect them Please!

At that moment, it seemed as though the sun started raining sunbeams instead of rain. Everywhere the rain touched Nonna or Amber it healed them. But when it touched the trees and grass, it almost seems as though it woke the forest up that’s when they found out what happened to the first group of people in the silent forest. The vines were acting as whips. Stringing people up. Keeping them from either running forward or leaving. The vines began shoving large flowers into the mouths of those that were screaming in fear.

The sun’s rain was still falling setting some people on fire instantly, some of the assassins were attempting to hack their way through the forest vines ,and they fell to the ground only to be buried alive not by dirt but an intensely thick covering of flowers and green grass while the others were left to hang completely burnt. The yelling and screaming had only lasted for around five seconds before absolute silence reigns over the forest.

And with that you could see the flowers picking up the weapons left behind and staring at them as though it was a puzzle meant to solve, before settling them onto the ground to spell out the “be you friend or foe?”

Seemingly satisfied with the choice of phrase that it made, it dropped a few more sunbeams on the weapons to fuse them forever, and the flowers settled down to rest.

The cameras cut to inside the house and you could clearly see Somnia crawling over to a flower pot and start throwing up what was clearly blood.

The twins paused the video. “at this rate , the gift is going to kill her. Not because there is anything wrong with the gift itself. But there is something else going on. And only someone intimately connected to her, like family will be able to see the true problem and fix it.”
