Chapter 6
This might just be the most miserable two weeks my brothers and I have ever had to spend out in the field. The further south we go, the less prosperous the land seems to become, almost as if the land itself has been blighted.
On the upside, due to my brothers Mikolai and Stefan’s excellent tracking skills, we’ve been able to destroy the third trafficking ring this week alone! Now we’re waiting on Stefan to finish hacking into their systems to find the next target.
“Ouch! Alexander, that hurts!”
“Then stop squirming, Ethan. Just because we heal fast doesn’t mean your stitches don’t need to be done correctly.”
“Sometimes I think you enjoy seeing me in pain, little bro.”
“First off, we’re quads. And second, I wouldn’t be a true brother if I didn’t enjoy your pain just a little bit. But never on purpose, I promise.”
Stefan yells from inside the computer room we discovered an hour ago, “Hey! I found something!”
This time, he looks excited.
‘From what I could find there is a pack about four hours from here, ironically named the evergreen pack and on the surface they seem clean .
‘ then why are wasting our time brother!
“ Hey! A little trust would be appreciated. Mikolai tracks what you can see and hear. My job is to track what no one wants you to see or hear. And that’s what I’ve found.
“I’m sorry, brother. Go on.”.
“ After some light digging, cause their firewalls are absolute shite. They have been requesting an entire fleet of trackers from the Lightfoot pack.
“As of two hours ago, there is no more Lightfoot pack!”
“Well, they don’t know that!” said Mikolai with a smile.
“Too bad for them, the payment was made two days ago, and the teams left due southeast yesterday.”
Ethan asked, “Do you know what they’re tracking?”
Apparently a singular girl, about sixteen years old, and she’s carrying a child about a month old.
“What!”
‘ that’s not the worst part. According to the order placed. The alpha wants the girl intact, but the baby is up for grabs to the highest bidder!”
Silence reigns in the group for a full five seconds. A rolling anger sweeps through the brother’s veins. Ethan*’s bear usually quiet until time for a battle growls out “ must protect them must go now!” One look at his brother’s shocked faces shows that their bear’s also had similar things to say to their human Counterparts as well.
Determined looks swept across their faces. If there was anything that could motivate them any faster than an Alpha’s order, it was their protective instincts.

Chapter 7
“ I know I said I would just stay one night with Granny.
‘One night my furry butt! The moon came out fifteen times before we were forced to leave!
“Yeah! But she had so much to teach me! Whoever said humans are defenseless was dead wrong! In fact, they are probably just dead.
The first thing she did for us was give us a hot meal. I’d never had one of those. Alpha wouldn’t allow us to cook our food. Something about us trying to burn down his pack if allowed.”
Big dummy! If anything I might set him on fire, but we would never set innocent people aflame!
Granny taught us to shoot a gun. She said it would make hunting food easier for me.
“ I prefer the bow “And an arrow she gave us,” I said. “I prefer that too, Iris.”
“ So we’re just gonna skip over the fact that that Granny is mated to a dragon! As much as hate ever being wrong , having that kind of personal plot twist is like getting to roll around in the grass after a spring rain!
“ I’m just thankful for her putting me on this four wheeler and giving us emergency camping gear before forcing me to run. I can honestly say Granny is pack now.”
‘ Granny said she would follow us as soon as she could. When she does catch-up, we will protect her.
‘ she only human after all. A very smart , dangerous human! Granny was mad when we left. I don’t Know if it was cause we had to use good bit of our energy to save her on the way out, or because so many evil guys kept inviting themselves onto her land to try and harm us .
‘all I know is Grandma yelled enough is enough! Made phone call declaring an emergency camping trip then said she would follow us to our dad’s pack. I wonder how she’ll do that.
“I don’t know something about the necklace she gave us.”.
“ I will never take it off. It’s the first gift I’ve ever received. Sun is going down. I need to check on Amber, and find a good place to camp out for the night.
Chapter 8
“ Good morn-uhnch
‘ neck punch!” He fell out of the tree I was napping in. After a bout of heavy coughing and dramatic rolling in the grass. I’m met by a set of beautiful, but watery green eyes
“ I was just saying good morning, why!”
“so much drama! You startled me. Come on, it wasn’t that bad. Alpha woke me many morning with hard throat punch… I gave friend throat punch. No hurt bad' friend Jacob.”
Jacob looks at me like he was going to cry. “ gosh that sad!”
I met Jacob two nights ago while searching for a place to camp. He seemed super friendly and he was born rogue. He's a snake shifter. He’s two years younger than me. He said his intention was to rob me when I fell asleep, but he caught one look at Amber ‘s eyes and imprinted. So now I guess I’m stuck with him!
‘ I still think our pup is young enough to get over him. He’s not good enough for my pup. ‘ yeah! But I can’t hurt pack. No matter how much I want to snap his cute lil neck. I protect him so he can protect her later.
“can I hold Amber please! I promise I’ll be super careful. Besides that I can tell your back is aching you could use a break, and you’ve been looking a little bit off lately and…‘shut up! I was gonna say okay but you gotta be quiet first! Now, pack up squish heart we need to find Grannies next fuel stash.
