Chapter 3
In simple plain English…living with him was hell. I could not eat junk food and things had to be set in a particular way along with the water temperature and whatever he nagged about. Why would a scientist base his life on making perfume?
I felt like a maid at work and now at home, my grandmother insisted that I move in with him. So much for helping me solve the problem. She was satisfied with the basic ceremony and told us not to rush the celebration since we had an entire lifetime ahead of us. He had a chef, 10 maids and wore a weird mask on his face whenever he would come out of his room. I'm not sure if this is a rich person thing but all his walls were white and I felt like I lived in a mortuary. There was one interesting aspect though, people would walk in and out of the house without saying a word. Something was definitely up. It couldn't have been the government since they hardly left the office…maybe he is a vampire…maybe I'm just another one of his prey.
My stone face shrunk at the thought of it…I could imagine the life being dragged out of my body along with my blood that was secretly harvested by this faceless human.
"you haven't said a word since you've moved in?" he said pouring out a glass of water, " are you afraid of being recorded?"
"since you're a man who's filled with plenty to say, explain yourself…I don't care about your whole face thing. Why did you pick me to be your wife from all your lady victims?"
" cause I haven't tasted your blood yet," he said smiling, " I'm kidding, I'm not a vampire…"
" so you're a funny guy too...amazing," I said
" Why thank you, besides…I like a feisty woman."
"well lucky you…you hit the jackpot with me, not sure if you can handle it though," I said folding my arms as I walked towards him, " no more weddings, I got thrown with eggs yesterday and my social media is filled with anonymous messages…my safety matters as well, not like I can cover my face all the time like you," I retorted with an eye roll, as I passed my phone to him, " deal with them."
" There isn't much I can do, it's not like they off my back as well," he said calling in one of his bodyguards, " hell accompany you and your officially my personal assistant, not secretary, leave all that for Ayaan…" he said leaving, "oh and by the way…you are allowed to actually use the house…im, not a neat freak."
I stomped my feet as I rushed towards my room. Im not sure if I'm angry or afraid. Personal assistant…what does he take me for. I followed him as he made his exit, today was a national holiday. He never spoke about himself or his family, he never told me anything about himself or whatever made him who he was..and whenever I would ask he would dodge the question with another personal referral. We walked into a clothing store and he gave me a complete makeover, then dressed me up in a ball gown. We drove over to a beautiful venue where I found most of our colleges and I think his family. My grandmother was present to…I was at my own wedding.
He didn't leave the car, yet said his vows through a microphone and silly me played along as I tried to hide away my anger. Frustrated by the surprise I was driven to my so-called honeymoon location, something tells me that my life will be filled with plenty of these surprises. He didn't spout any word during the drive or registration into the hotel. I couldn't even tell what he was thinking since his face was disguised with a mask. He booked the entire hotel…I doubt his perfume business made this much money. His bodyguards arrived and covered the entire area…who was this guy?
I have never seen this much emphasis put into any Ceo before, I bet all of this was new to the world. My grandmother was on the government's side but never have I ever seen her try her best to protect her identity. Then again she wasn't that big of a participant. We arrived in the room…he booked the entire hotel but wanted to share a room with me
"I want my own room…" I said folding my arms
"I can get you your own room but remember you'll blow your cover, "he said opening the door, " besides I won't do anything to you without your consent."
That was the first sensible thing I've heard him say since our abrupt meeting. I've never been in love since I was young. I was never given the gap in my life, I was never given a moment to look at someone and say this is the one. I always dreamt about it though, I imagined how much happiness I would face if I had married someone I've wanted to…how sad that I still have to wait for that day to come.
"Why don't you smile like most women do?" he asked lighting up a cigarette
"you smoke, " I asked grabbing it, " dont smoke…."
He turned towards me confused, " sure…I mean you changed your wardrobe because of me so why not."
Such…a sensible man, " I don't smile because it's difficult to."
" I use to smile all the time, " he said taking off his mask, " not that it matters anymore, get some rest ill sleep later."
I nod in agreement before leaving him, maybe I was wrong. After all, this ghost of a Ceo was human too and turns out that he once had a normal life at some point.
"Adam…im a very average person…orphaned, poor…there's nothing to like about me," I said turning towards him, " why would you choose me if you're every girl's dream."
"somethings aren't meant to be told in the very beginning, you'll find out eventually."
I left after getting his answer. I guess I won't be asking that question for a while.
