The first name

985 Words
The universe went silent. Not just Earth. Not just the kingdoms. The stars themselves stopped shining. For one impossible heartbeat… Creation held its breath. Luna stared at the glowing page. The name she had spoken echoed across existence. Not in a language anyone knew. Not in words. It was older than speech itself. A name made of light. The moment it left her lips… Every book in the Hall of Origins flew open. Millions of pages turned by themselves. The Oracle fell to one knee. “The First Light…” Her voice trembled. “…has awakened.” ⸻ Prague The earthquake stopped instantly. The eclipse froze. The Harbinger looked toward the heavens in terror. “No…” It whispered. “It can’t be.” The Shadow King closed his eyes. For the first time since anyone had known him… He smiled with genuine relief. “So Mother chose well.” Lucien frowned. “What are you talking about?” The Shadow King looked toward the Hall of Origins. “Luna isn’t merely the Moon Queen.” “She never was.” ⸻ The Beginning The white pages of the ancient book began to glow. Words appeared one after another. Not written. Remembered. ⸻ Before there was time… There was only the Void. Then came a single thought. That thought became Light. The Light desired companionship. From itself… It created the First Soul. ⸻ Luna’s heartbeat slowed. She knew these words. She had lived them. The room around her disappeared. She stood once again beneath the endless white tree. Only this time… She wasn’t a child. She was a young woman dressed in robes woven from starlight. The Moon Goddess stood before her. Smiling. “My first child.” Luna’s eyes filled with tears. “I remember…” The Goddess gently touched her forehead. “You remember because the time has come.” “Who am I?” The Goddess smiled. “You were never born.” “You were created.” Luna whispered, “My name…” The Goddess nodded. “You are Astraea.” The name rang through eternity. “I was your first creation.” “No.” The Moon Goddess smiled with pride. “You were my first friend.” ⸻ The Truth Luna’s memories returned all at once. Before Seraphina. Before Nyx. Before kingdoms. Before Earth. She remembered helping shape the stars. She remembered singing galaxies into existence beside the Moon Goddess. She remembered laughing with the Sun God as they watched worlds bloom. She remembered watching the first oceans form. She remembered creating forests. Animals. Dreams. Hope. Then… She remembered the Void. It had watched from the darkness. Hungry. Jealous. It couldn’t create. It could only consume. So it created children of its own. The first… Was the Devourer. ⸻ The Sacrifice Tears rolled down Luna’s face. “I failed.” The Moon Goddess shook her head. “No.” “I couldn’t stop it.” “You did.” “For a time.” Luna remembered. She had chosen mortality. She had willingly forgotten her true identity. She had become the Moon Queen. Again. And again. And again. Each lifetime strengthened the barrier keeping the Void away. Each act of compassion… Each sacrifice… Each life she lived… Fed the prison with hope instead of fear. The Moon Queen had never simply ruled. She had been renewing the wall between existence and oblivion. Without ever knowing. ⸻ The Choice No One Could Make The Moon Goddess looked at Astraea with sorrow. “The barrier is failing.” “I know.” “The Devourer is only the first.” “I know.” “The others are awakening.” “I know.” The Goddess reached into Luna’s chest. Not physically. Spiritually. She withdrew a tiny silver flame. It was Luna’s soul. “No…” Luna whispered. “I’ve already lived enough lives.” “You have.” “But one choice still belongs to you.” The Goddess opened her hand. Two paths appeared. The first… Luna saw herself sealing the Void forever. The stars survived. Humanity survived. Her friends survived. Kael. Lucien. Alaric. Nerissa. Even Nyx. But she disappeared completely. Not death. Erasure. No memory. No soul. No reincarnation. Nothing. The second path… She lived. She kept everyone she loved. But within centuries… The Void would break free. Every world. Every star. Every soul… Would be consumed. Luna stared at both futures. Neither felt fair. Neither felt right. “There has to be another way.” The Moon Goddess smiled. “There wasn’t.” Luna frowned. “Wasn’t?” “For five thousand years…” The Goddess gently touched Luna’s cheek. “…I could only see those two futures.” She looked toward the Hall of Origins. “But today…” She smiled wider. “…you changed destiny.” ⸻ A New Future Back in the cathedral, the Oracle suddenly gasped. “I can see again.” Everyone looked toward her. “What do you see?” Kael asked. She laughed through tears. “A third path.” The Shadow King’s eyes widened. “No…” “The impossible future.” Lucien stepped forward. “What third path?” The Oracle looked toward the glowing doorway. “A future…” “…where no one has to be sacrificed.” Silence. Even the stars seemed to brighten. The Oracle whispered the words that changed everything. “But to reach it…” She looked directly at Luna. “…the Nine Thrones must become One.” Far beneath the oceans… The Eighth Throne blazed with silver fire. High above the clouds… A hidden Ninth Throne, forgotten even by the gods, answered with golden light. Across the universe… Something smiled. Not the Void. Not the Devourer. Something older. Something that had been waiting for Astraea to remember who she truly was. And in the darkness between galaxies… Two ancient eyes slowly opened.
