The fractures between worlds

965 Words
The crack spread. Not across the sky… Across reality itself. It began as a thin black line between the stars. Then another appeared. And another. The heavens looked like shattered glass. From within the fractures came something no one had ever heard before. Not voices. Not screams. Silence. A silence so complete it swallowed sound itself. The Oracle fell to both knees. “No…” Her hands shook uncontrollably. “The Wall is breaking.” ⸻ The White Tree Far beyond creation… Luna found herself standing beneath the White Tree once again. Silver blossoms drifted around her. Across the meadow stood the young man from her memories. He looked no older than twenty-five. Dark hair moved gently in the breeze. One eye shimmered silver. The other burned with molten gold. He smiled exactly as he had before the first sunrise. “Astraea.” Luna couldn’t breathe. “Elias…” For a long moment… Neither moved. Thousands of years disappeared between them. Finally, Luna crossed the distance in a run. She threw her arms around him. He caught her effortlessly. For the first time in countless lifetimes… She felt completely at peace. “I thought I’d lost you.” Elias rested his forehead against hers. “You did.” “But you found me again.” Tears rolled down Luna’s face. “I forgot you.” “You were supposed to.” “I forgot everything.” He smiled. “You remembered the part that mattered.” “What part?” “You never stopped choosing hope.” ⸻ The First Promise They sat beneath the White Tree. Exactly where they had billions of years before. Luna looked at him. “Who are you?” He laughed softly. “You already know.” “No.” “I remember your name…” “…not your story.” Elias looked up into the glowing branches. “When the Moon Goddess created Light…” “…she realized Light alone could become tyranny.” “So she created me.” “Balance.” Luna nodded slowly. “And you watched over everything.” “I watched over everyone.” “But never ruled.” “Because Balance cannot take sides.” He smiled. “Until now.” ⸻ Prague The cathedral trembled violently. The crack in the heavens widened. Something moved behind it. Not the Devourer. Something watching the Devourer. The Shadow King slowly lowered himself onto one knee. “It sees us.” Lucien stared upward. “What does?” The Shadow King’s answer came in a whisper. “The Author of the Void.” Even Nyx looked afraid. “There are stories…” “…older than creation.” The Oracle interrupted. “They aren’t stories.” “They’re memories.” ⸻ The Forgotten Enemy Back beneath the White Tree… Luna noticed something carved into the trunk. Nine symbols. She recognized the first eight. Blood. Fang. Magic. Flame. Spirit. Stone. Sky. Tides. But the ninth… Had changed. It no longer represented Balance. It now bore a new symbol. A crescent moon wrapped around a rising sun. “What does it mean?” Elias looked at the carving. “It changed the moment you remembered me.” “Why?” “Because Balance isn’t enough anymore.” He took her hand. “For the first time…” “…Light and Darkness have chosen each other.” Luna frowned. “I don’t understand.” “You will.” ⸻ The Heart of the Crown The Moon Crown suddenly appeared between them. Floating. Its silver branches slowly unfolded. Luna watched in amazement as hidden pieces emerged from within the ancient metal. The crown wasn’t complete. It had never been complete. Nine empty spaces appeared around its center. Only two contained glowing seals. “The Crown…” Luna whispered. “…is unfinished.” Elias nodded. “It always was.” “The Nine Seals don’t strengthen the prison.” “They restore the Crown.” “And when it’s whole?” Elias’ smile faded. “It remembers.” “What?” “Its maker.” Luna felt a chill run through her. “The Moon Goddess made it.” “No.” Silence. Elias looked directly into her eyes. “You did.” The words stole her breath. “I created the Moon Crown?” “Before you chose mortality.” “Before you became the Moon Queen.” “You forged it from your own soul.” Luna looked at the silver branches with new eyes. She could feel herself inside it. Every sacrifice. Every lifetime. Every memory. The Crown had never been an artifact. It was her. ⸻ The Betrayal Suddenly… A scream echoed across the White Tree. Luna spun around. A figure emerged from the light. The Moon Goddess. She looked weaker than before. Cracks of darkness spread across her silver robes. “Elias…” She whispered urgently. “It’s happening.” He was already standing. “I know.” She looked at Luna. “The Devourer was only the key.” Luna’s heart sank. “What opens the door?” The Goddess closed her eyes. “The one I imprisoned before the universe existed.” The ground beneath the White Tree shook. A voice echoed from beyond the crack in reality. It was calm. Almost gentle. “Little sister…” The Moon Goddess froze. Color drained from her face. “No…” Luna stared at her. “You know that voice?” The Goddess whispered a name that no book had ever recorded. No prophecy had ever spoken. A name erased before time itself. “Azrael.” The White Tree began to wither. One blossom at a time. And somewhere beyond the broken edge of reality… A smile appeared in the darkness. The true enemy had finally awakened.
