Chapter 1

RAGE I rummaged through the trash to find my resume. I saw it quickly. It got a little messy so I fixed it. I was about to get up to leave that building. Yes, it hurt, but I don't have time to dwell on everything. All I have to think about now is where I can sleep tonight. I was surprised when I saw a hand held out for me. I didn't accept that. I stood up and looked at the smiling man in front of me. He has foreign features and his lips are red. "Sorry for the way my cousin Rage Del Fierro behaved. I'm Logan." He extended his hand to me again. I looked at his hand and quickly accepted it. "Sunny." I said. "Thanks, but I have to go." I looked around and saw that the scene behind was back to normal. Samuel and that woman who called him earlier just disappeared. I saw Mr. Rage Del Fierro with his jaw tensed while talking to the security guards and an important looking person. He was smiling and nodding at them. "Don't leave yet." Stop the man with the long hair. He is familiar to me. I don't even know where I saw him. When I folded my arms I realized she was a model. I've seen him on a billboard in EDSA before. I stared into his eyes with a foreign color. Blue or green? I can't decide. I frowned at that man. "I have to find a place to stay and a job. If it's not here, then I have to leave." I said before I could stop myself. The man with the long hair smiled. "You're welcome here. What do you want? Be a janitress, clerk?" "Do I have options?" I was a little surprised by what he said. The long haired man closed his mouth and looked at his watch before speaking again. "Janitress then. We need some janitress." I breathed deeply. Is it legit? Am I really accepted? I looked at Mr. Del Fierro. I'm not sure but I feel like he's the boss here. This company is Del Fierro Group of Companies. If he's not the boss, maybe he's the owner? I do not know. "Am I going to sign a... uh, contract?" Because I feel like I'm more accepted at work then. I know it looks like I was only accepted here because of mercy and because of what happened to me earlier. However I have no idea how I was received. The important thing for me is that I was accepted, I have a job, and I will advance if possible so that I can put something in the one month advance, which is often the policy for apartments, dormitories or whatever I can stay in for the next few months. "There is." The male model smiled. "Actually, you may start now. We need more janitors." Logan elbowed the model and the model winced a little at him. I frowned at their expectations. "It's disrespectful, but can I start tomorrow?" I'm embarrassed to ask. I am ashamed of my current situation, there is nothing I can do. "Why?" The model frowned at me. "I need to find a place to live." I answered. The man with the long hair and Logan looked at each other. Now I'm not sure if what they're saying is true. Can they be trusted? I glanced at the man with long hair. Both of them are wearing longsleeves that are folded up to the elbows. What are they in the company and why are they the ones talking to me instead of HR? "I'll talk to Rage. You can probably stay in his house." Logan winced slightly at what the man with the long hair said. "Huh? isn't that disrespectful? but who is Rage? The owner? Why should I live in their house?" I asked confused. "Well, Sunny, she also needs a janitress at their house. I mean... a maid." Logan said while grinning at the man with long hair. I saw them straighten up while looking behind me. I frowned at the two so I looked at whoever was behind me and I was surprised when Mr. Rage Del Fierro. Rage? "What's the problem here, Brandon?" He called the man with long hair. "Rage, you told me she can start today right? She wants to leave to find a place to stay." That's Brandon, that guy with the long hair. "Wait..." I closed my eyes because my brain was in a knot. "You told me earlier that I was not welcome. Now, I am welcome? Is this true?" I asked Mr. Del Fierro. His jaw tightened and he looked at me with a horrified expression. "You do not want?" He raised one eyebrow. "It's just too surprising." I said directly. "Don't be surprised, you are not special. You are hired. If you want to stay, you may stay here in the office. We also need a guard here besides the guards." He said coldly as he took a piece of paper from a woman and signed something. I winced at everything he said. "For free?" I asked when I realized that my problems had been answered. "Not for free. Your service is what I need so I shelter you in this building. I want my office to be clean, all the time-" "Rage, that's harsh. She can stay in your house-" Rage immediately cut off Brandon. "Since when did you care about my employees, Brandon? Besides, my house is full." "Full the f**k. You don't even have your own maid. You are alone in that big house!" Mr. looked Del Fierro to me. He raised his eyebrows as if he was ordering me to leave. Looks like I'm in the wrong place right now. Honestly, I have no idea what issues they have in their lives. All I want is to have a job and shelter. Now that they can give me something like this that's good for me. I don't care why and how everything will happen, what's important to me is that it already is. I left before them. I was greeted by a woman in corporate attire. She introduced herself as Mrs. Ching. Mrs. Ching is fat and quite old. Ching. I feel more comfortable with her compared to Samuel. "The Headquarters of the Maintenance department is on the 15th floor. There is also on the first floor, but often there are only lockers there." Mrs. Ching said. "Mr. Del Fierro ordered you to be in his office to watch, didn't he?" I nodded at Mrs.Ching's question. "There is no headquarters there and I don't know where you will sleep." She said a little surprised. "Oh! I don't have a problem where I can sleep. I can. sleep on the floor." I said. "We'll just wait for Mr. Del Fierro's order. Right now, I will base you at Headquarters, on the 15th floor. Okay? Mr. Del Fierro's office is on the 40th floor of the building. Usually, there are guards on every floor but not on the 40th because Mr. Del Fierro doesn't want to." I nodded and realized that Mr. Del Fierro has a lot of things he doesn't like and I'm one of those he doesn't like. If someone doesn't like you, you should just stay away. I don't want trouble and I'll only bring trouble if I force myself on people who don't want me so maybe it's better if I just stay away. After all, Mr. Del Fierro and I don't always talk. I'll just clean there. "Where am I going to clean? Is it the whole building?" I asked even though I already knew the answer. Mrs. Ching shook her head and laughed. "No, hija. You will die if you clean the whole building. There is one assigned maintenance on each floor. That means there are forty of you in our Maintenance crew. I will assign you to..." She looked at the paper in her hand. I watch the number change inside the elevator. I swallowed and realized I was still really hungry. How can I eat it if I start now? Maybe I'll go out for a while and buy some food. I thought of the fried chicken earlier at Jollibee. Was it a good decision to waste a hundred on that? "When is the salary?" I asked Mrs. Ching. "The salary of the employees here is 15th to 30th of the month." She said and her face cleared up. "You're on the 40th floor. Since you'll be sleeping here and Mr. Del Fierro is often the last to leave aside from the Financial Department, I'll assign you there." Said Mrs. Ching. I nodded. "What time does Mr. Del Fierro leave?" "Ten o'clock is the longest. So that means, at 10:30, you'll go up and clean on the 40th floor." "So? Can't I go up at 10:10?" Mrs. looked Ching to me. I grinned and made a peace sign. "Just kidding. Okay then. 10:30." I said as my eyes wandered over the numbers in the elevator. Mrs. Ching showed the office of Mr. Del Fierro. She did not tell me that the entire 40th floor is the office of Mr. Del Fierro! It's wide and the wall is just glass! I can see the sunset from there. "Often, the maintenance crew leaves when there is no one on their floor. You, you don't need to leave, so maybe it's fine. Mia is often the last to leave here. She is the one assigned to Finance." I was just nodding my head as I looked at a plant below a huge abstract painting of a plant face. How much does this furniture cost? Maybe it will feed me for about two months? "Did you go to college, hija?" Mrs. Ching asked. "No, ma'am. I almost didn't graduate from high school. I would like to go to college but I don't have the money yet." Mrs. examined me. Ching. She looked me over from head to toe. "It's not obvious to you. Your complexion is rich and beautiful." She shook her head. "I heard what happened to you and Samuel earlier. I'm sorry. There have been many complaints even from employees. Let Mr. Del Fierro have it removed. But you are really beautiful and it's surprising that you have nowhere to live. Where are your parents by the way?" I smiled. "Thank you. Mom is beautiful. Mom just died. My dad has been dead for a long time." I wandered around the office. I don't want to talk about my family. I want to be strong for now. Remembering mom and her death is out of place. I'm just sad. Fortunately, Mrs. Ching already stopped to her questions. She took me to the 15th floor and she was right. Almost all maintenance is gone. All that was left was a woman a little older than me. Her eyes narrowed at me as she fixed her hair. "New?" She asked as she applied lipstick to her lips. I nodded and looked at the lounge. There was a sofa there and I realized maybe I could sleep there too? "Which floor?" she asked. I watched how she combed her hair. She's beautiful. Her hair is long. Not as long as mine but it was shinier and straighter. "40th." I said. Her eyes widened. "To Mr. Del Fierro?" I nodded and was surprised by her reaction. "Oh my God! He's so handsome and so hot! Have you seen him?" She asked me. I nodded again and picked up a royal blue uniform that looked like it would be my uniform today. "Then? He's very handsome, isn't he? My gooood!" She stopped coming to me. "I really dreamed that I was assigned to the 40th floor! Then what happened when you met?" I winced. I understand that Mr. Del Fierro is handsome. I remember the definition of his face because of his jaw and his eyebrows. His nose is pointed and his lips are thin. Typically rich and successful. But will people love someone who is handsome but has a bad attitude? That's what I don't understand about people. Mia laughed when I said that I didn't like Mr. Del Fierro and he doesn't seem to like me either. He fired me when we first met and threw my resume in the trash. "I'm leaving. Ms. Mendez has left, Finance is okay! Wohoo I can go home!" Mia said and left there. While Mia was gone, I thought of leaving the building. I was in uniform and decided to buy canned goods instead of actually eating at Jollibee. One can a day. Maybe I will survive this? Fortunately, I have a free place to stay here. Will it last or will they think I'm too much of a burden because I'm sleeping there? I hope not. I bought eight cans and thought that maybe I'll eat at a carindirya or fast food sometimes. The 15th of the month is still a bit far away, so I should save up first. When I save up, maybe I can rent a space. It's better because it has its own bed, bathroom, and storage space. Because in the building, the bathroom is common. When I came back from the grocery store, Mia's bag was gone. I realized that she must have left. I ate first and slept. Every time I sleep soundly, I try to wake myself up because I'm afraid I won't wake up at 10:30. I don't have a cellphone so there is no alarm yet. I fell asleep five times and woke up until 10:15. I washed and got ready. I fixed my clothes and went out to clean up on the 40th floor. I tied my long hair and pressed 40 to the elevator. I waited for a while before I arrived. The elevator opened and the rather dark office dawned on me. There are still double doors before I can enter. I took the mop before I went in and started picking up the trash. I saw various torn papers there. Maybe it was torn by Mr. Del Fierro was so angry earlier? I smiled while thinking that Mr. Del Fierro. Why would people be angry if they are already so rich? If I had money, I would be smiling every day. No matter what bad luck befalls me, my smile will never fade because I no longer have money problems. I was stunned when I noticed something strange. I put the mop on the floor as I lifted myself up while looking at the red strings I picked up. It took me a while before I knew what it was. "Panty?" I whispered to myself. I looked around until little by little I heard a little moan from the table of Mr. Del Fierro. What is this? My eyes widened as I held the mop. I can see the bare back of Mr. Del Fierro as he thrusts himself back and forth against a woman leaning on his desk. I looked at his bare back. The muscles of his back kept up with the rhythm of his pushing the woman. He stood and held the woman's waist while doing it. I covered my mouth with my hand. The woman moaned even more as she wrapped her leg behind Mr. Del Fierro. Mr. Del Fierro looked up and I saw his jaw tighten as the woman screamed. I had goosebumps at the woman's scream. "Rage!" I took a deep breath and slowly left. Wrong time.
