3 Ethan The drowsiness slowly lifts from my brain and I blink, but it doesn’t immediately help. Then I feel Max move next to me and he leans over me, touching my face. “Welcome back.” I try to smile, but I’m not sure if I do much. The fog is still too much. “They said you might be groggy for a bit longer, but you should try not to move yet.” He takes my hand and sits next to the bed. I want him to come closer, but as soon as I try to I realise why they didn’t want me to move. I squeeze my eyes closed, it doesn’t really hurt, but it does feel really weird. Which isn’t strange, as they just took a whole baby out of me, through my stomach. I try to sigh, but even that feels weird. “How is he?” Then my brain catches up and I realise that the baby is not here. “Where is he?” Panic shoots
