Chapter 7Having cautiously slipped his key in the lock and gently pushed the door open, Alex winced when the creaky hinge reminded him that, yet again, he'd forgotten his promise to oil it. Why do I only ever remember when I hear that noise? he wondered. “Alex is that you?” “Were you expecting anyone else? Sorry luv, I didn't mean to wake you?” “I wasn't sleeping. I'm only lying in bed because it's more comfortable. C'mon in.” Alex opened the door. The bedroom dimensions and layout weren't too dissimilar to the one he'd just left.
