Marriage as a Bargain (5)

"What do you mean?" Liu Yiyi’s eyebrows shot up, and the woman who had been silent suddenly stood like a cat with its tail stepped on. Even the most brazen mistress shrinks at the label of "wife," especially when confronted with it. Lu Weixi’s lips curved into a faint smile. "No special meaning. If you want to live freely, build your own villa. Similarly, if you want to hold your head high, find a single man who isn't married. Am I right, Host Liu?" Liu Yiyi had coasted through her career since joining the TV station, recently edging out seniors to land a hot variety show, multiple endorsements, and connections with Qin Zhiyou. Even the CEO of Lvyuan Design didn’t dare raise his voice to her—who was this woman to mock her? Her eyes sharpened, Liu Yiyi clacked across the room in her high heels, hand raised to slap Lu Weixi’s face. "Ms. Lu, watch out!" Chen yelped, caught off guard by the sudden attack. But the slap never landed. Lu Weixi seized Liu Yiyi’s wrist mid-air, gripping it like a vice. "Let go! Let me go!" Liu Yiyi struggled, her perfectly made-up face twisting in shock as she realized she couldn’t break free. Lu Weixi yanked her closer, sneering, "That’s not how you slap someone, Host Liu." The other woman wore only a touch of makeup, but when she raised her brows, her eyes sparked like a fox eyeing prey—crafty, alluring, alive. Liu Yiyi, no stranger to beautiful women in showbiz, had to admit Lu Weixi’s smile was stunning. But the next moment, a stinging slap landed across her cheek. Liu Yiyi froze, as did her assistant, Chen, and everyone else in the room. It took her a moment to shriek, "How dare you hit me?! How dare you?!" Lu Weixi’s lips curled, still gripping Liu Yiyi’s wrist with her left hand. "And what if I did?" Before the words finished, she slapped her again—smack! This time, Lu Weixi released her, and Liu Yiyi stumbled back, catching herself on a desk, two bright red handprints blazing on her cheeks. Silence fell as everyone stared, stunned. Lu Weixi stepped forward in her heels, plucking a tissue from a box to wipe her hands meticulously, as if touching Liu Yiyi had dirtied her. Then, with a cold stare, she grabbed the design plans and contract, shredding them before the host’s eyes. "Complain or sue all you want—I’m dropping this project." She scoffed. "Or go cry to your CEO Qin. I’m sure he’ll fire me for you, since he cares so much."
