Noah's voice was rough and gravelly. "Okay, thanks a lot, Emma." A short while later, I spotted Noah sprinting toward me, huffing and puffing, winded from the run. I handed him a water cup, my tone laced with concern. "What's the rush?" The tips of his ears flushed bright pink. He ducked his head to gulp down the water, and only spoke once his breathing had evened out. "I didn't want you to wait too long, Emma." I huffed a quiet laugh, led him to the guest room I'd just tidied up, then headed to wash up for the night. When I woke up the next morning, Noah was already gone from the guest room.
