Chapter 23

727 Words

Liam hadn't eaten in so long his thoughts had ground almost to a halt. A long beat passed after I finished speaking before he finally mumbled, "...That's good." Diaia had all but destroyed him, but the feelings he'd harbored for her these past six months weren't fake. News of her arrest wasn't entirely good news for him. I stared at his vacant, glassy eyes and decided to speak up anyway. "Liam, your parents still don't know you're in the hospital. Yeah, it'll be bad news for them, but they'd never want to see their son suffering here all alone." Liam knew full well there was no way his condition was going to get better from here. If he waited until he was on his deathbed to call them, it would be an agonizing, gut-wrenching blow for them. He gave a slow, heavy nod. "I'll tell them."
