Chapter 9

Friday 6th June CREWS POV My mind was racing. I was finally going to see the source of that delicious smell. Originally, we made a pact that if we found our fated mate before our plan could be finalised, we would meet her just one time, together, and reject her without saying another word. No small talk, no bonding, and definitely no physical contact. Sever the bond as quickly as possible and move on. My brother had obliterated that pact and now I saw it was only fair that I got see who fate decided we belonged with too. I wasn’t my brother. I could handle seeing a girl without losing my mind. He was always more of a player than me. Women were his weakness. I knew I could handle this better than him. I unlocked the door, and walked into the room. It was empty. Her scent was coming from the bathroom. I pushed the door open to find the tiniest she wolf I had ever seen, curled up on the floor. My stomach lurched, my heart ached, my head spun. ‘f**k, Cole was right.’ I studied my mate carefully. She was stunning. Not much taller than 5ft if I were to guess. White flowing hair that would usually fall effortlessly down to her waste. Glowing skin with dainty, perfect features. Soft plump lips and the most exquisite, large blue eyes I had ever seen. She looked up at me with a pain and sadness that tore a hole right through me. Her eyes were red and swollen, she had mascara streaked down her face. She had got herself so wound up that she was shaking and being sick. I took a step forward and crouched lower. She recoiled at the mere sight of me and hit her back against the wall. God that hurt. A mate is meant to be the person you run too, not from. She was in pieces, and it was all our fault. We always knew this wasn’t going to be easy and that we would all end up hurt, but this was a level of pain I couldn’t handle, not for her anyway. I made a low ‘ssshhhhh’ sound to try and reassure her and gently scooped her up into my arms. She was as light as a feather, and weakly buried her head into my chest whilst she clung to herself. She inhaled my scent and I felt her tears soak into my tshirt. I carried her over to the bed and sat down with her still in my arms, cradled safely on my lap. I looked down at her and brushed her hair from her face gently. I could see confusion in her eyes. Of course she’s confused. She gets the hot and cold treatment from Cole, before he takes her to an all-time high and then shatters her with the promise of rejection. She then gets locked in a room to drown in her own thoughts, and now this! Did she know it was me? Could she sense that I wasn’t Cole? That must be even more confusing if she thinks I’m him. I go to speak, but she gets there before me. “I’m sorry”, she whispered. If it wasn’t for my sensitive wolf hearing, I wouldn’t have heard her, she was so quiet. She began to sob loudly into my chest. I held her tightly. “I’m so sorry”, she continued between sobs. “It was my first time. I’m sorry if I did something wrong. I didn’t mean to.” She cried. F*ck, she thinks that she didn’t satisfy Cole and that’s why we need to reject her. This is all his fault, the stupid pri*k. “Hey, hey, hey”, I cooed softly. “You did nothing wrong, nothing at all”, I soothed, stroking her hair. “It’s just my brother can be a complete d**k at times, it has nothing to do with you little luna, I promise.” With that, she jerked her head away from my chest and looked at me, confused. “Hello little mate, I’m Crew”, I smiled. BLUE POV I was in his arms again on the bed. I couldn’t stop the tears from falling. I inhaled his scent, in case it was the last time I ever got the chance. It was the same intoxicating aroma, except it seemed a bit lighter, a bit brighter. Moments later, I realised why. It wasn’t Cole. It was Crew, his identical twin brother, my second mate. My second rejection. How did I find myself in a second pair of arms for the second time today, preparing for a double rejection? What had I done to deserve this? Maybe it wasn’t what I had done? Maybe it was what I couldn’t do? I pondered as he cradled me, before I went to speak again. Even though I had only just met him, I felt more comfortable talking around Crew. His aura drew me in and I felt he wasn’t as harsh as Cole. “I’m still sorry,” I started. “I’m sorry I can’t be the luna you need and deserve.” “Lunas are meant to be big and strong, confident and powerful. They are born to lead. Everything I am not. I know you are going to reject me. I know you don’t want someone like me bearing your pups and future heirs. I don’t know why fate burdened you both with someone as poor and pathetic as me, and I am so, so sorry, to have been thrust upon you both, and to have complicated your lives.” I said. A sob escaped my throat as I poured my heart out. I was right. Lunas were powerful, they were almost equal to alphas. I was a poor she wolf who was orphaned as a child, and had no major prospects for my future. I can’t stand up for myself and I’m literally a punching bag for those who need an outlet for their rage and cruelty. “Rejection is what I deserve. I am not worthy of standing alongside alphas such as yourselves. You deserve someone who isn’t so pathetic. I’m so, so, sorry for everything, please just reject me and let me go home,” I sobbed loudly, clinging onto his tshirt and leaving a wet patch of tears that covered his whole left peck. CREW POV F*ck this sh*t. I am not having this perfect little mate of mine, feeling like this is all her fault. This is not her fault, she is the only person in this sh*t storm who isn’t to blame! Hearing her say how she isn’t worthy of us and how she’s a burden, sent stabbing pains through my chest. How could she think so little of herself? This was wrong, all of this was wrong. “Nothing of what you just said is true,” I soothed. “This is not your fault. It is us that are not worthy of you, little luna. There is so much that you do not know, that I can not explain right now, but please know, none of this is your fault, and you are worthy and beautiful.” I held her tightly and lifted her off the bed. I started carrying her towards the door. She would be much more comfortable in my room. “I need to speak to my brother,” I said. “About what?” Came a reply from the doorway. Cole was standing there, presumably checking in on me to see if I was as weak as he had been. “Let me take her to my room, and I’ll come find you,” I growled. “Take who to your room?” Came a shrill voice from down the hall. “Cole you fu*ker, why weren’t you at school to pick me up? I had to get a lift home in a sh*tty Bentley”. Screamed Cara. She joined Cole in the doorway as I went to walk by. “And what the hell is Poverty doing here? Have you hired a new maid for the summer?” She sneered. “Back off or I’ll rip your throat out”, I threatened. She stood back shocked at my outburst, as I carried my mate down the hall to my room. “Give him some time to calm down”, I heard Cole say as he led Cara towards the study. I lay my little she wolf on the sofa by the fire, and locked the door. She would be safe here.
