Sunday June 8
BLUE POV
Well, that was an unexpected surprise to my morning. I fell asleep so early last night, and when I awoke, Crew was in bed with me. I should have just pushed him away until I had decided what I wanted to do about our future, and had made some rational choices. My wolf isn’t rational though, and she wanted him to stay. Granted, I wanted him to stay too, but my head told me it was a bad idea.
I wasn’t fit to be Luna, so we shouldn’t be doing this. Was this going to keep happening? Would the twins just be crowned alphas in a couple of weeks and lie to their family? Will they pretend like they haven’t found me, and just see me in secret? Could I live with that? Could I live being their secret? Maybe I could… Maybe I could see them most days, in our beautiful beach house, and no one would be any the wiser.
I still had a lot to think about.
I know they care for me, but acting like we had never met would be hard for me, and ruling without a Luna would be hard for them.
Speaking of ruling, Crew had to head back to the Pack House shortly after our morning fun. His dad was back and he didn’t want to miss out on any valuable information he might be sharing with Cole. He had showered and changed before blowing me a kiss and leaving me to my thoughts.
This means that I can spend my afternoon relaxing, and trying to look into my mother's letter and what it means. Before I do any of that, I need to do something else first.
I know he’s keeping his distance because he thinks it will be easier for us both if we stay apart, but he needs to know I’m still thinking of him. After thanking Crew this morning, and him telling me not to mention the house to his brother just yet, I pull out my new phone, which conveniently only has 2 numbers saved in it, and typed out a message to Cole.
COLE POV
Dad was due back any minute and I had no idea where Crew was. I was going to mind link him, but it may be best if he isn’t here. Crew was always the more sensitive one, he wore his heart on his sleeve and him and dad didn’t always see eye to eye. I just try to keep the peace and see the bigger picture. Crew doesn’t like the fact that even though we will both be alphas and shouldn’t have to answer to anyone, we still do. We have to answer to the pack, to the people, and do what’s best for them. That’s hard, especially when you’ve grown up your entire life getting everything you have ever wanted and never been told no.
My phone buzzes in my pocket. I pulled it out expecting it to be Crew or my dad. It’s not.
‘Hey Cole. Thank you so much for my lovely birthday gifts. They are all wonderful. Thank you for still being so caring towards me, even though it makes life harder for you. I appreciate you, and well, I care about you so much, even if it’s not reciprocated. I hope the rest of your weekend is nice. Thanks again, for everything. I don’t deserve it. Blue xoxox’
A text from Blue. My heart leapt, then fell in the same instance. ‘I don’t deserve it’, she wrote. Oh but she did, she deserved the world, and more. She deserved everything, and we should have been the ones to give it her, but we couldn’t.
My thoughts were interrupted by my brother's voice in my head. ‘You in the study Cole?’ He said cheerfully. Why was he so happy? Maybe he had a text from Blue too?
‘Yeah’, I replied. He arrived moments later and said dad had just pulled up outside and that Cara had run to greet him. Of course she did. She’s the only one who is actually looking forward to the future. Daddy’s little princess getting everything she’s ever wanted whilst the rest of us are left to suffer in silence.
My father, Alpha Cain, met us in the study 10 minutes later with our sister hanging off his mammoth arm. My mother, Cassie, had decided to travel from Silver Claw to Blood Moon Pack to make sure both parties were on the same page, and my father would meet her there later. He acted like he was coming to share information with us, when, in reality, he was checking up on us. He was a huge man. He stood at 6’7, with the same green eyes as me and my brother. He didn’t look a day over 35, except for the grey strands peppered through his shoulder-length dark hair and beard. He was never seen in anything other than smart trousers and a slim fit shirt that clung to him and made him appear larger than he was, if that was even possible. He reminded me of a sophisticated viking.
“BOYS”, he boomed, as Cara flinched in surprise.
He shook her free of his arm as he took 2 giant strides toward us and pulled us in for a bear hug. “Hi Dad” I mustered, as he squeezed almost all the air from my lungs. Crew looked uncomfortable. I hoped he would keep his cool, and not mention Blue. I’d managed to placate Cara the other night when she came home and saw Blue. I ended up lying and saying Crew wanted her to paint a mural for the pack house, and that I didn’t want it and she fainted, overwhelmed.
I don’t think she believed me though.
“Let’s sit” dad said, gesturing to the sofas. Me and Crew took one sofa, Cara the chair and Dad sat behind the desk in front of the floor to ceiling windows.
“There’s a lot to catch you up on”, he continued. “As you know, our informant has reported back to us that Moonstone is definitely preparing itself for something big. The rogue army has grown by a fifth in the last 6 weeks alone. We believe that Alpha Aamon is looking to attack sooner than expected, so me and your mother have been making arrangements to bring the plan forward, to before your crowning”, he said matter of factly.
“Excuse me what? Before we take over the pack? Do we not get a say in this at all?” Spat Crew. Dad looked at him sternly. “You know what will happen if we wait. Aamon is too strong for our forces. He holds the biggest army of any of the northern territories and it’s growing by the day. If he attacks us now, we will be destroyed,” father growled.
“Surely there must be an alternative? Have we seriously looked at all other avenues?” Crew was practically begging. Normally I’d ignore his whining and just accept the fact, but since meeting Blue, I understood how he was feeling. Father was losing his patience, his eyes started to darken.
“Well, I think it’s a great idea, Daddy” Cara shrieked. “The sooner we do this, the better for everyone, especially our pack,” she said excitedly.
She would say that, wouldn’t she? She wants this. It was like all her Christmas’s had come at once when mother had asked her if she would help the pack. She acted coy, of course, like it was a big deal, but she would take one for the team and step up for the family, and the greater good. It was all a mask though. Inside she was skipping with glee. She couldn’t have been happier.
“How soon are you thinking?” I asked dryly.
My father looked up.
“Your mother is on her way to the Blood Moon pack as we speak. We have finalised it with Silver Claw, and we don’t see any reason why Blood Moon would want to wait either, so all 3 of you will be wed next weekend”, he said matter of factly.
“Next weekend?” We shouted in unison. Some of us clearly more excited than others. My father nodded. SH*T, we were going to have to crush Blue’s heart sooner than I thought.
“My informant will deliver a final report on estimated numbers and possible strategies from within Aamon’s pack house on Friday. I will need one of you to meet them and mind link me immediately with details. Your mother and I will return home on Saturday with the other packs in preparation for the ceremonies on Sunday,.
As always, this is strictly confidential. If anything got back to Moonstone, they could strike early and the pack would fall,” he said sternly.
“But dad, like Crew said, are we sure there isn’t another way? Have we tried every last avenue?” I asked, trying to sound as casual as possible. Cara glared at me. So did my father. I guess that answers that question.
“I have a few matters of business to attend to, then I will be going to meet your mother and finalise the arrangements. I trust you can all behave whilst I am gone. Don’t let this sudden change in the plan disrupt your responsibilities to this pack,” he barked. Then he stood up, nodded at us all and left the room.
CARA POV
OMG, I’m getting married this weekend! Soon I will be Mrs Cara Jacques, Luna and mate to Alpha Sylas of the Blood Moon pack. I will finally be a Luna. It’s all I have ever wanted. My brothers were born to be alphas, but anyone could be fated to be Luna, so I could be fated to a Beta, or Gamma, or even worse, a nobody!
NOPE, NEVER HAPPENING!!!!
Granted, Sylas wasn’t my fated mate, but he was hot. His lineage was flawless, plus, he was the only Alpha on the market in the northern territories. Silver Claw did have a future alpha, but he was 6 years old, I wasn’t willing to wait to see if he was my fated mate. Let’s be serious, I wasn’t going to look this perfect forever. Sylas is 22 and I have known him since I was a pup. I was sad when I turned 18 and he wasn’t my fated mate, but knowing that he would be my mate none the less was good enough for me. He took over his pack 2 months ago, so as soon as we say ‘I do’ I will become Luna. This marriage will not only insure my pups will become future alphas, and my family blood line remains strong, but also that our pack survives. Our forces will unite through marriage, and we will be able to defeat the rogue army that is growing in the Moonstone Pack. Well, we will once my brothers marry River, the eldest daughter of Alpha Ryu and Luna Raine of Silver Claw. She will become Luna of Lycan Moon, and our lands will be united through marriage. This was the only way either pack would agree to join us. They knew our packlands were the only ones to border Moonstone, and they didn’t want to risk warriors and resources fighting ‘somebody else’s fight’. The only way would be to make it ‘their’ fight through marriage.
In reality, it was all our fight. Even I could see that! This had been arranged around a year ago when we first found out that Alpha Aamon, the Rogue King, was building an army. We knew it would only be a matter of time.
Cole, being the eldest, had always put duty first, and agreed with everything father had asked without question. So defying father moments ago was quite a shock. I’d expect that from Crew, but NEVER Cole. Something was off. Something was wrong, and I was going to find out what it was. Nothing and nobody was going to stop me from becoming a Luna!
