Chapter 17

1140 Words
Sunday June 8th CREW POV I had to get out of that room before my head exploded. After my father left, so did I. I headed straight for my room. I could feel Cole shortly behind me. I left my door open, he followed me in and shut the door as calmly as he could under the circumstances. “This weekend?! Really?! What the fu*k are we going to do? What will we tell little Luna?” I yelled. “We need to calm down. We knew this day was coming no matter what. Whether it happens next week, next month or next year, it’s still happening,” he replied, his face as cold as stone. “How the fu*k can you say that? How the fu*k can you act that coldly? That was before we found our fated mate! What will we tell her? This is going to kill her, Cole. We can’t shower her with gifts, say we won’t reject her, then 2 days later say, “Oh by the way baby, we are getting married this weekend to someone that isn’t you. Oh and we are going to have pups with her, and they will be future alphas, but don’t worry, we will send you gifts and money, so don’t be sad,” I cried. “Don’t you think I know that?” He yelled back. “Don’t you think I know how much this will crush her, and us? I’m fully aware Crew, but there is no other way. If you truly care for her like you say you do, then the kindest thing would be to reject her. Let her try and move on with her life. Let her at least try and find a second chance. We can’t keep her tethered to us, it’s not fair, it will destroy us all.” Cole was clearly as upset as me, but I couldn’t agree with what he said. I knew I didn’t have it in me to look into her blue eyes and tell her that I rejected her. I was too weak to give her up. I nodded to Cole as if I agreed, then made my excuses. “I need some fresh air, I need to take a run,” I said. He nodded back in understanding and I left him standing in my room. I needed to see Blue. CARA POV I decided to wait a minute before I skulked after my brothers. They were definitely up to something. They shut the door into Crew’s room. These rooms were soundproof against normal werewolf hearing, but my father is an alpha, my mother is a Luna, I had alpha blood running through my veins. I had senses stronger than most wolves and I could hear them well enough through the door if I put my ear against it carefully. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. They had found their fated mate. They had found the girl who was fated to become Luna. Who was it? Did she live here in the pack house? My mind was racing. If they didn’t reject her, then she could become a problem. Even if they did reject her, she could still be a problem. She could ruin everything. If my brothers or even one of them pulled out of the arrangement, then all of it would crumble. Two packs alone couldn’t defeat the rogues, it had to be all 3 united. But that wasn’t my main worry. If they pulled out, then the Blood Moon Pack would think we were dishonourable. They would cancel my wedding to the alpha, my position as Luna would be lost. My future gone. I couldn’t have that. This girl had to go, she had to be taken out of the equation. Of course, my brothers would be upset to begin with, but they would get over it in time and accept Luna River as their mate, and the future of both of our packs secured with all 3 of us on thrones, as it should be. I had to stop this before it ruined everything. BLUE POV It had been a few hours since Crew had left me. Shortly after he had left, I pulled out my mother's note and read it aloud several times. She was clearly scared to say anything too obvious in the letter, it almost seemed to be in code. The ‘gift’ was obviously the moonstone. That was apparent. It holds ‘great power’. I briefly remembered reading about moonstones in mythology a couple of years ago. They are said to have come from the Goddess Luna herself, and were known to enhance certain senses and have mystical properties. I don’t remember anything specifically, but maybe that’s what she meant by ‘learn about your gift’. I pulled out the moonstone. It truly is the most beautiful stone I have ever seen. I undid the clasp and placed it in its box. OK, so first things first… it’s the 21st century. I had the internet and a brand new phone. I searched ‘moonstone’ online to see if there was anything there. There was more than I imagined. A lot of information was repeated, but I found a forum for werewolves interested in ancient mythology and legends. I thought that would be an interesting place to start. In the first hour, I learned that moonstones were originally thought to have been created by Luna, the moon Goddess. It was said that every 100 years, moonstones were brought in with the tide on a full moon, a gift from Luna herself. Moonstones are said to relate to “new beginnings”, one person wrote. Another said a moonstone is a stone of inner growth and strength. It helps with emotional instability and promotes a clear mind and calmness. That could really help if it were true, especially when it came to the twins, I thought. Moonstones can enhance intuition and senses, promote inspiration and success too, apparently. The stones' strength was also meant to grow and weaken depending on the moon's cycle and whether it was full or new. My wolf stirred when I read the next post. According to legend, moonstones enabled the wearer to have clear visions and could offer the gifts of prophecy and the sight of a seer. It would protect the wearer on their travels and quests. True keepers of the stones would also be able to overcome their susceptibility and intolerance to silver. I gasped! I was immune to silver! It was probably just a coincidence. My eyes started to ache, so I took a break and made myself a snack and put the necklace away safely. I put my phone down, and decided to take a stroll on the beach to focus on all I had just learned.
