CARA POV
I hoped that I could make it back home before father left again to meet mother. I was racing back as fast as my wolf could take me. I didn’t have time to plan Poverty’s downfall but I know that my father had planned for too long to let someone like her bring our futures crashing to the ground. He would fix this.
I raced through Lycan gardens towards the pack house. Shocked faces passed me in a blur, people weren’t used to seeing my wolf, I much preferred to be chauffeured around in a fancy car than to get my paws dirty. I saw father's car still parked out front. I skidded into the pack house and headed straight into a downstairs bathroom. I threw on a robe and headed for the elevator.
Time seemed to stand still as it took me to the 5th floor. I could smell father, he was in the study. I ran straight there.
Father was packing the last of his things as his Beta, Theo was pointing at a map and discussing something I had zero interest in.
“Daddy” I gushed. “I need to speak to you right now, it’s very important,” I said. “It’ll have to wait Cara, just take my credit card and get whatever you need. I have far too much going on at the minute, you know that,” he replied moodily. I felt a growl leave my lips and he raised an eyebrow at me. I bowed slightly to apologise, but he had to understand the seriousness of this. ‘Please daddy,’ I said though mind link.
Beta Theo left the room swiftly and my father made himself comfortable behind his desk. “This better be good Cara”, he snarled. God, he could be such a hard ass sometimes. If it wasn’t for me, this entire pack would crumble, he better appreciate my intel and treat me with more respect after he sees how loyal I am to him and his plan.
“Daddy…… the twins have found their fated mate.” I said. The colour drained from his face. “Who is she?” He spat.
“She’s a nobody. A peasant. She has no money, no title, no authority. She’s quiet and timid and is pathetically small,” I laughed. “I heard the boys admit that she couldn’t be their luna, but they refuse to reject her. I think they plan on making her their mistress.”
My father stroked his beard, deep in thought. “Do they know you know?” He asked. I shook my head. “I found them together earlier and they didn’t see me, I came straight here to tell you”, I said proudly. “Good girl, at least I know I can count on one of you” he mumbled. Father rarely gave compliments, so I’ll take that. It’s the closest I’ll get.
“We can’t let this girl disrupt the plan. Even if the boys acknowledge she won’t be Luna, we can’t risk her loitering in the shadows and upsetting Luna River. The future of our pack depends upon these unions,” he said, and he pulled out his phone.
He typed out a message and put it away again. He looked at me sternly and called me over to his desk, which was covered in maps and paperwork.
“I need you to step up Cara,” he said. “Can you do that?” I nodded eagerly.
“I have to go to the Blood Moon Pack to meet your mother now, and finalise things for Sunday. I don’t have time to stay here and sort this mess out. I have left a message for my informant in the Moonstone pack. I need you to go and meet him and explain the situation. He is one of the few people outside of our packs who knows of our plans, but I can’t explain this to him over the phone incase someone intercepts. Tell him where he can find this girl, and assist him when necessary. Tell him it needs to be sorted before the wedding and for him to tell Alpha Aamon about her. Aamon won’t be able to resist the prospect of taking the twin's mate and will think he’s weakening our pack.
In reality, once the twins are married to River and our packs are united, we will destroy Aamon and his rogue army. The twins will hear that he has killed their fated mate and that will drive them to fight with the strength of 100 warrior wolves.” He smiled proudly, happy with his plan. It sounded pretty good to me too. Poverty would be out of the picture, my perfect wedding would go ahead as planned, and my brothers would lead our family pack to victory against the vile rogues that plagued our neighbouring territory. I shuddered at the thought of a rogue. Dirty, loner wolves who didn’t have the class, stature or ability to even be in the lowest ranks of a normal functioning pack society. They were scum. Poverty would fit right in when the Rogue King Aamon would take her to his rogue-infested lands. I laughed to myself. It’s exactly where she belongs.
“Meet my informant here when I give the order,” bellowed father as he pointed to a spot on the map. It was near Lycan Lake in the southwest border of our territory. Not many people ventured there due to old myths and legends about curses, superstitions and such. I could get there easily undetected. It was time for me to step up for my pack and for my future as Luna.
I nodded obediently at father, he nodded back, gathered his papers, kissed me on the cheek and left the room.
‘Do not let me down Cara’, he growled through mind link. ‘I won’t daddy, I promise’, I replied
