Thursday June 5
BLUE POV
The academy was almost 1000 years old and built from large blocks of sand stone. It stood solid and unwavering with several peaked towers that reminded me of something from a fairy tale. The windows are tall and arched in a gothic church style. I have sat many times with my sketch pad and drawn the school from different angles and it never fails to take my breath away.
Luckily, every member of the Lycan Moon Pack is entitled to an education, both rich and poor. The wealthier families got their own private common rooms and suits on site for breaks and free periods, as well as having the school principal, Mr Jenkins, in the palm of their paws. People like me just existed, stayed in the shadows and hoped to get through the day without being ridiculed or made to do the rich students' homework.
I arrived at my first class early and sat at the desk in the farthest corner of the room. Sunlight streamed in from the tall windows and I pulled out my sketchbook and began to doodle.
This was Lycan History, and as it was so close to the end of term, classes were a lot more relaxed than usual. We had done all the exams, completed all our essays and finished all the homework in anticipation of the 2-month break that was on the horizon.
The room began to fill with students. The closest person I had to a real friend came and sat at the desk next to me. Ezri. She’s a smart middle-class she-wolf with waist-length brown hair she wears in loose waves, winged eye liner and thin pink lips. Her skin is slightly tanned, and she has deep brown eyes and a kind smile. She isn’t a super close friend, but she is always nice to me, and happy to chat and walk between lessons with me. Sometimes we would go to the cinema outside of school, or team up in art class. She is confident and outgoing and isn’t intimidated by the more overbearing, cruel students, unlike me. She smiles at me and asks how my evening was, and we exchange small talk until a shrill cackle can be heard from down the corridor.
Cara. The most popular girl in school, and the daughter of Alpha Cain Huxley and Luna Cassie, which practically made her royalty, and boy did she know it. Cara was always dressed in the latest high-end fashion names, even when we were meant to wear our school uniform. She would compliment her white blouse with a designer blazer, and wear the highest heels she could tolerate, taking her from 5’7 to practically 6ft tall, towering over most of the other she wolves in the school. She was tall, slim and had dark brown hair that fell in perfect curls below her shoulders. Her nails were always flawlessly manicured, and she was draped in the most beautiful jewellery. Her make up looked like it had been applied by a professional and her smokey eyeshadow accentuated her green eyes. She has high cheek bones and sharp features, and genuinely looks like a model. She’s beautiful. If only her beauty reflected what she was like on the inside. Sadly, it didn’t.
Cara entered the room with her entourage of 3 girlfriends. Laughing and smirking, they kicked a girl's bag out of their path and scattered papers across the floor. They sniggered before taking a seat each, in the back row beside me. I kept my head down and Ezri turned around to face the front, not wanting to give them any excuse to target her today. Not that she couldn’t handle it, she has retaliated against Cara’s vicious remarks in the past and stood her ground, but it’s honestly more effort than it’s worth and it’s best to just try and avoid it. Sadly, I had been at the receiving end of most of Cara’s venomous reign over the past 4 years, and I wasn’t as confrontational as Ezri, and most weeks I find myself sobbing in the girls' toilets.
Today would be no different it seemed.
“Hi Green” she sneered as she flicked her hair over her shoulders and eyed her peers for approval at her lame a** remark. They laughed along obediently. I kept my head down and hoped she would get bored before it escalated. Just as she was about to open her mouth again, the teacher entered the room and she held her tongue.
Mr Steel was reading from a book moments later when I let out a loud gasp.
I had been doodling subconsciously in my pocket sketchbook when I was suddenly covered in a cold liquid. Cara had purposely tipped a bottle of water over my drawings and, subsequently, my lap and jumper too. I flashed her a shocked look, but her eyes had turned from their usual green to a menacing black. Her wolf had come forward and she was terrifying. Before I had time to blink, her eyes were back to green and she had her hand raised in the air.
“Mr Steel, Sir” she exclaimed. “Miss Poverty has had an accident, I think she needs to go to the bathroom” she said slyly.
The whole room exploded into a roar of laughter. I threw my book in my bag and ran from the room, tears streaming from my eyes.I fled to my usual toilet cubicle and remained there until lunch.
Eventually, I sneaked out and ate the sandwich my Aunt had put in my bag by the small lake at the side of the academy. I lay my soggy sketch pad on the lawn to dry out in the sun whilst I ate. Normally I would panic about not attending class, but as we were so close to finishing for the year, I really didn’t care, and just wanted to avoid Cara and the rest of civilisation for the remainder of the day. I headed to the library for the final 2 lessons and decided to check out some books to read over the summer. I grabbed 5 that caught my eye and checked them out.
‘Lycan Myths And Legends’
‘Werewolf Art Witches Heart’
‘Luna Moon’
‘An Alphas Mate’
‘Pack History Past To Present’
I put them in my bag, waited for the school bell to ring and fled the grounds for the safety of my safe little cottage.
