Chapter 7 Whose Baby?

819 Words
He kept his word. The moment I stepped out of the bedroom, I saw the USB drive sitting on the coffee table in the living room. After quickly freshening up, I grabbed it without hesitation and walked straight out of the room. My years with Marcus had already taught me the harsh reality of emotional entanglement—it only ever led to ignorance and foolishness. Whether it was Lena, Marcus, or even the man I had just spent the night with, they all brought me fleeting pleasure. But if I let myself get lost in any of it again, I'd be the biggest fool alive. I had one goal—revenge. And once that was done, I would leave this godforsaken place for good. When I got home, the first thing I did was log into the school forum. Without hesitation, I uploaded the video from the USB drive. Alongside it, I attached another recording—footage from my home security cameras capturing Marcus and Lena barging into my house, attacking me in a fit of rage. Every word, every hit, every vile thing they had done was caught on tape. And beneath those videos, I wrote a detailed account of everything that had happened. Anyone with a working brain would be able to put two and two together. Unless they were complete idiots. Next, I sent the remaining evidence to the police. Marcus had engaged in illegal transactions, completely ignoring my rights in the process. I had no doubt he would face legal consequences. As for Henry... I had no idea if he would face any repercussions. The world had always been kinder to the powerful, hadn't it? Something told me he'd be just fine. Still, I wasn't about to take any chances. I packed my bags that very night and left Edenvale State. I needed time. Time to breathe, to figure out what came next. ***** When William Harington woke up, the little temptress he had spent the night with was already gone. He had expected as much. But still, a part of him had wondered... After all, he was a Harington. Women never walked away from him. Yet, she had. Interesting. Not that it mattered. If he wanted something, he got it. And she was no exception. Harry's daily routine call snapped him out of his thoughts. As twin brothers, their bond was clearly closer than that of other siblings. "I got a call from the police. Looks like that bastard Marcus' doing got blown wide open." 'So, she'd hurriedly left because she was off to report it to the cops.' William smirked. "No surprise there." "But why did you get involved with that scumbag's business in the first place?" Henry's voice carried an edge of suspicion. William had no idea what Harry's feelings were toward that girl, so he simply chuckled, trying to brush it aside. "He was too arrogant. I just thought I'd teach him a lesson." Henry seemed to relax. "Fair enough. Anyway, have you found the person I asked you to look for?" William's jaw tightened slightly. In all their years, he had never kept secrets from his twin. Until now. Their little temptress. "No," he lied smoothly. Henry didn't question it. "Keep looking. I need to know where she is." Annoyance flickered in William's chest. "Why bother? You're about to be engaged to the Redwood family's daughter. What does it matter?" Henry, clearly irritated, ended the call without another word. William took a slow sip of his coffee, staring out the window. So this was what it felt like to compete with his brother. Not bad. His thoughts drifted back to the previous night. They had been reckless. He hadn't taken precautions. And knowing Henry, his brother probably hadn't either. Which begged the question— If she got pregnant... whose child would it be? The idea sent a dark thrill through him. ***** Two months after I left Edenvale State, I was faced with a cruel realization. My period was late. Even then, I tried to convince myself it was just stress, maybe an irregular cycle. But when I finally went to the hospital, the doctor's words hit me like a ton of bricks. "Congratulations, you're pregnant." I felt my entire body go numb. For the first time since my parents' passing, I was truly terrified. My mind raced back to those two nights. The way he had taken me over and over again. We hadn't used protection once. No matter how I looked at it, there was only one possible father. And so, despite all my efforts to escape Edenvale State... I had no choice but to go back. I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend my life with him. But this child... I had no family left in this world. And for the first time in a long time, I desperately wanted to keep something of my own.
