(Erico’s POV) Avanna was gone by the time I got back. She never stays for long. I instructed Martini and Dino to carry Giulia into one of the rooms in my mansion. Just ahead of mine. I called Rosie, the head maid, to attend Giulia. She is quite young and knows the game. “Take off her wet clothes off and tuck her into bed.” I instructed her. “Get her phones and personal items too, so she won't get in touch with any one outside here.” I quickly added. “Okay sir.” She replied, smiling. “Would you like to have a cup of coffee? You look like you shit.” I brushed my hand through my hair and exhaled. “That will be fine Rosie, I'll have one. Lot's of milk, no sugar.” She grinned and went on to carry out her task. I suddenly realised I was drenched with the rain earlier. I went straight to the shower to clean up. I changed into something comfortable. A knock came through the door. “Get in.” I ordered. There, Rosie appeared with the coffee. She placed it on the table by the corner. Always efficient in what she does. “The girl, she is in bed now.” She reported. “Is there anything else I can do for you sir?” I waved her off with my hand, signalling nothing else. “I'll call you if there is.” I quickly drank the coffee and headed towards the room Giulia was kept in. She was awake already. I quietly watched her try to put on her clothes before realising her phone and contents of her purse were gone. She panicked and broke down in tears. I have seen enough. “Going somewhere?” My voice startled her. I saw the shocking look on her face when I emerged from the shadows. Like she had just seen a god. Yea, I have that effect on women. Not even the damsels in inherent danger are spared. I don't like to be ignored. I warned her and so I repeated my question. She struggled with her answer. I saw how fragile and innocent she is. Her tiny body she tried to cover with her clothes. “Oh doll, this is your home now. Get comfortable already.” I told her. But she wasn't having it. I warned her not to talk back at me and there will be consequences if she does. I told her that her uncle was the reason she is here. A detail she clearly finds difficult to process. Like all others before her, she isn't aware of what awaits. She challenged my authority when I told her she is in no position to ask questions unless she is permitted to do so. I warned her sternly and told her to get ready in thirty minutes. Also warned her not to try escaping as the house is surrounded by security guards. She is about to be introduced to her new world. I called Lorenzo the moment I entered my room and informed him we had secured the baggage. “Good boy. He was obviously excited. I know you can handle it. Get her over here asap.” “I'll be there soon.” I hung up the phone. What a day it's turning out to be. I need to find Ricci. I got something he needs to do for me. I met him in the living room with Rosie. “What are you two goons up to?” I queried. They both looked up at me with a broad smile. “Glad to have you join us, Erico. Sit down here. He patted on the cushion close to him. But I ignored him. I have my favorite chair in a spot well positioned. “Rosie, I'd like you to prepare dinner for us.” I noticed her surprise. “Dinner for us?” “Yes. You got a problem with that?” My brow furrowed at her questioning my order. “My apologies, boss.” She quickly scurried away to get on with it. “Ricci. I need you to run a background check on someone. Franco Balleti.” “I need to know why he gave out his niece to us. How deep of a mess he is.” “I'll text you his address. Don't f**k this up.” “Alright, boss. I got it.” “Need something else?” he enquired. I shook my head. “Nothing for now. Have you heard from my brother?” “He’s out on a spy mission for Lorenzo.” “The Russians are infiltrating our territory.” He continued. “Maxi was sent in to get their MO and report back in two weeks.” “There is imminent war brewing Erico. We have to be ready.” He warned. His voice was laced with concern. “I'm a god of war before I was made an enforcer and debt collector for Don Lorenzo.” I reminded him with a smirk on my face. “Now go bring out the girl for dinner.” “I'll be waiting at the table,” I instructed. “Alright, boss.” He takes a bow and heads towards the room where Giulia is. He came down moments later, screaming, barely catching his breath. “Erico! Erico! The girl, she is gone, she… She is not in the room.” I stood up, eyed him angrily. “What do you mean she is gone? Have you lost your mind?” I clenched my fist, a wave of anger building inside me. “Now be careful with your next answer,” I cautioned him with a grim-dangerous stare. He fell on his knees. He knew I wasn't joking when I told him to be careful with his next answer. “Sorry Erico,” he said with a sullen face and slumped shoulder. “She must have escaped.” He looked up at me, fear stricken as the words fell from his mouth. He knows what's coming. Someone's going to pay. I raced up to her room but met with a completely empty room. “Where the f**k are you, Giulia?” I murmured. I scanned the room frantically and that's when I noticed the window was open. She had just escaped through it. I got closer and peeped down and realised there was a ladder close to the window. No doubt she had used it to climb down. I need to find her. I headed straight to my room and took one of my guns. “Ricci! Ricci! Ricci! I called out to him as I got to the leaving room. He was still on his knees right at the spot where I left him minutes ago. “Yes, Erico?” He whimpered. “Sound the alarm, get the boys ready.” “We are going hunting. And you're coming with us.”
