Chapter 4 Linton, Morning March 27, 1944Like a schoolboy, Del thought. He had been waiting on the hard wooden chair outside Captain Rota’s office for half an hour. At nine-thirty the Adjutant came to the infirmary and told him to report to the intelligence officer. Del had been bang on time, and the Adj had installed him on the chair. Now it was ten thirty-five, ten thirty-six, and he had been alone in the silent hallway the entire time. Del tried hard not to think about it. He knew that Rota was inside, doing this only to torture him. How like Rota. Del willed himself not to be angry, as it would be just another weakness for Rota to exploit. Del did not know why he was seeing Rota at all. He assumed that he was giving his long-overdue debriefing, although that seemed a moot point now.
