The Offer

Two days later... Ava's eyes flew open, her chest heaving as she escaped the nightmare that had gripped her. In her dream, she had lost everything—the accident, the pain, the darkness. But then, a light. A stranger’s hand reached for her. A help she hadn't expected. “When will she wake up?” a familiar voice broke through her thoughts. “My friend has been lying here for days, doctor.” Ava blinked, her surroundings slowly coming into focus. The sterile white walls, the faint beeping of machines—it was clear she was in the hospital. Every part of her body ached. Her limbs felt weak, but it was the sharp pain in her stomach that brought tears to her eyes. The memory of the accident flooded back—how the trailer slammed into her car, the chaos, and then...him. The young man. His face was a blur, but she remembered his urgency, his calm voice as he pulled her from the wreckage. “Hold on,” he had said. “I’ll get you to a hospital.” And then darkness had claimed her. “My baby,” Ava whispered, her voice faint and trembling. She tried to sit up, but pain surged through her, forcing her back down. Her heart pounded as she turned to the doctor standing near her. “Is my baby okay?” The doctor’s face dropped, his silence speaking louder than words. Ella rushed to Ava’s side, gripping her hand tightly, tears streaming down her face. “I’m so sorry,” Ella choked, her voice breaking. “You didn’t deserve this, Ava. None of it.” The doctor stepped closer, his tone soft yet heavy. “I’m truly sorry for your loss." We did everything we could, but...the impact of the accident, combined with the blood loss, was too much. We couldn’t save the baby.” Ava’s world was shattered. Her heart broke into a million pieces as tears streamed down her face. “No,” she whimpered, shaking her head. “No, no, no. I’ve lost everything. My baby, my life—why didn’t I just die in that accident?” “Stop it, Ava!” Ella said firmly, her own tears falling as she clung to her friend. “Don’t you dare say that" You’ve been given a second chance. Not everyone gets that. You’re alive, Ava. You can rebuild. You can start over.” “But my baby…” Ava’s voice cracked as she looked at Ella, her swollen eyes pleading for an answer she knew would never come. “I’ve lost everything, Ella. My husband, my money, my love...and now my child. What do I even have left? Just betrayal.” The doctor quietly left the room, giving them space. Ella pulled Ava into a gentle embrace, her heart aching for her broken friend. “You have me,” she whispered, holding Ava tightly. “You’re not alone. You’ll get through this, Ava. I promise you.” But Ava could only cry, her pain too fresh, her heart too shattered to see the hope Ella spoke of. "My parents were right about Rodriguez. "I should have listened to them, but I was so stupid," Ava whispered, her voice trembling with regret. Memories of her parents warning her flooded her mind. They had begged her to marry someone else, but she had been too rebellious, too blinded by love for a man who turned out to be a gold digger. Her jaw tightened as anger replaced the regret. "Kimberly and Rodriguez will pay for this. I’ll make them wish they never crossed me." Ella opened her mouth to agree, but the door creaked open, interrupting her. A tall, striking man stepped into the room. He was dressed in a sleek black suit, his posture exuding power and confidence. His broad shoulders could rival those of a Spartan warrior, and his long, dark hair was tied back, save for a single strand that fell gracefully across his chiseled face. Ava’s breath caught when she saw his piercing blue eyes. They were like two shimmering pools, full of depth and intensity, and they lit up the moment they met hers. She remembered him instantly—the man from the accident. He was the one who had pulled her from the wreckage, saving her life. She felt a wave of gratitude but couldn’t shake the thought that kindness often came with a price. After Rodriguez’s betrayal, she trusted no one. "Good morning, ma'am," he said softly, moving closer. His deep voice carried a calm authority that demanded attention. He sat on the sofa to her left before standing again, as if to ensure she saw his full presence. “Allow me to introduce myself properly. I’m Alexander Del Castillo.” The name hit Ava like a thunderclap. She stared at him, her heart racing as recognition set in. Could it really be him? Her eyes widened as she pieced it together. Alexander Del Castillo. The name wasn’t just familiar; it was unforgettable. He was the son of the wealthiest family in the country, a man whose very presence sent ripples through the business world. In the entertainment industry, his name was synonymous with mystery and charm, a bachelor whose lack of a public dating history only fueled his allure. Seven years ago, her parents had wanted her to marry him. Him. But back then, Ava had refused. She wanted love, not a merger of fortunes. She had been convinced that Rodriguez was her soulmate, that a marriage to Alex would mean sacrificing her independence. Now, she could see where her ideals had led her. Betrayal. Pain. Loss. “I... I” she murmured, her voice barely audible. “I know exactly who you are, Ava,” Alex said, cutting her off gently. His tone was steady, unreadable, but his words held weight. She swallowed hard, her voice shaky. “Did you... Did you know who I was when you saved me?” “I did, Ava Marshal,” he replied with a faint nod. His blue eyes never left hers, his face an unreadable mask. “I recognized you the moment I saw you. I was on my way home three days ago when I came across your accident.” Ava’s heart sank further, her mind racing with questions. Seven years ago, she had rejected him. And now, here he was, saving her from the wreckage of a life she had chosen. “You didn’t have to...” she began, but her voice faltered. “I didn’t do it for gratitude,” Alex interrupted, his voice calm but firm. “I did it because no one deserves to be left behind. Not even someone who once rejected me.” His words struck deep, leaving Ava unsure whether they held kindness, pity, or something more. Alex leaned back on the sofa, crossing one leg over the other, his posture calm yet commanding. His gaze softened as he spoke. "I’m glad you’re alive, Ava. But I’m truly sorry about the baby." The words pierced her heart, and tears welled up in her eyes. Her baby. The one hope she had left, gone forever. “The doctors did everything they could," Alex continued, his voice steady yet laced with regret. "It just... wasn’t meant to be.” Ava’s tears spilled over, streaming down her cheeks. “Thank you for saving my life,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “But you should have left me there. I wanted to die. At least then, I would’ve been with my baby... Now, what do I have? Nothing. What am I supposed to do with my life now?” Alex stood up and moved closer to her. His hand reached for hers, his touch warm and steady, like a lifeline pulling her out of the depths of despair. Ava wanted to hate the comfort it brought, but she couldn’t. “It’s true you’ve lost so much—your baby, your husband, your trust,” he said, his deep voice calm but resolute. “But it doesn’t have to end here. Things can change. You can rebuild everything, Ava. You can have a future again. All you need to do is accept my offer.” His words hung in the air like a lifeline, but Ava’s brow furrowed. How did he know so much about her? She hadn’t told anyone the full story—not even Ella. All she’d shared were fragments of her pain. Yet Alex seemed to know it all. “You know everything about me,” she said, her voice low with suspicion. But how? Why do you even care?” Alex’s gaze didn’t waver. “I make it my business to know everything about the people I care about, Ava. And I care about you.” She stiffened at his confession. Gratitude for saving her life was one thing, but this was something entirely different. “What’s your offer?” she finally asked, her voice trembling with both curiosity and fear. Alex crouched slightly, meeting her eyes with unwavering intensity. “Marry me, Ava. Be my wife, and I will give you a life you’ve only dreamed of. I’ll make you the happiest woman on earth.” Ava’s breath caught. Of all the things she expected him to say, this wasn’t one of them.
