Chapter 41Twenty minutes later, we sit in the car in front of my apartment, the engine running. “Nobody understands,” Steve says. “It’s my body. I’ll do what I want with it.” “Are you coming in?” I ask, shutting the car off and pulling the key out of the ignition. “Did you hear me, or are you ignoring me as usual?” “I heard you. I’m afraid I have to disagree.” He huffs and stares out the passenger’s side window. “Typical.” “What does that mean? “I can take care of myself.” “Your nurse just wanted what’s best for you. So do I.” “I don’t care what the nurse said or how she feels.” I shake my head. “Do you care how I feel?” Silence. “Babe?” “Yeah.” “Why are you being so stubborn?” He tosses me an argumentative stare. “I’m angry.” I nod. “I know. So, let me take care of you.”
