Chapter 43By six o’clock, a s***h of gray morning light dances across the apartment floor from the half-drawn curtains of the balcony doors. I lay still, dazed, my head fuzzy from lack of sleep. Maybe my therapist’s breathing techniques are working, I think, turning to Steve snoring next to me. The bed is warm, comforting, safe. I do not want to leave the apartment today. I want to stay inside, isolated. I fumble with the bedsheets around my ankles and sit up on the edge of the bed, leaning forward and scratching my head.
