Chapter Four: Leave

1110 Words
After the night Peter storms out of the apartment, Teresa’s mental state couldn't be any better. She tried to call Peter to sort things out to him but every time, her call would fall either to his voiceline or to his grumpy assistant who clearly shows signs of contempt over her. She rang another call to Peter's number only for his assistant to take the call. For the third time Teresa internally wanted to shout and complain to hand over the phone to Peter. “Ms. Cooper, Mr. Hughes doesn't want to be disturbed at the moment.” Mark said on the other line. “I just wanted to speak to him, even just for a minute." She replied. The assistant sigh and give a punctual pause, "My apologies Ms. Cooper but it's Mr. Hughes rules to not be disturbed.” Teresa hung up without acknowledging the assistant. She had been in terrible mood and Peter's assistant is not helping, if anything, it's just making it things work. She gripped the mobile phone hardly it could snap into half if she intend to but instead she got up and pace around. ‘Tomorrow, I will see him in person.’ She thought with a smile in her face. *** Daniella was finishing up on packing her things when Karissa arrived. The dark circles on her eyes are proof that she hadn't slept well. She had been deciding on what to bring and what to leave. Since she was married to one of the wealthiest men in the city, she had been gifted and bought designer dresses and clothes that she barely wore. That act of generosity melts her heart and seeing how she neglected what he gave, pangs her inside. “I’ve brought what you asked for." Karissa uttered as soon as she reached the threshold of the room. “Thanks, Riss.” Daniella smiled, though anyone could see her smile was solemn. "You’ve made the right choice Dani. Finally you free yourself from those misery." Daniella nodded even though her eyes were starting to get wet. She refused to shed another tear, so she sniffles it. Karissa handed her the divorce paper and she hold it with full determination. ‘This is it. It comes to this. After all the things I've fought for. The dream, the life, the love. It comes to end to this piece of paper.’. She thought. Before she married Peter she was dreaming about the life she wished to live with him. Of course, she never acknowledged his feelings before. That was her fault. She had only hope to things that she wants to happened and fight for everything, including love. Six years before she and Peter would often travel to school together and that closure lit up a light inside her. A desire. So, when she got the chance she would ask Peter about the life he wants to live in the future. ‘I want to be independent.’ He coldly said. Daniella smiled and nodded. She would always look at him with full attention and admiration. And everytime, her heart would bounce up and down inside of her like it's performing a cartwheel. A feeling only he can evoke out of her. ‘I only want to be with someone I loved.’ She would say that confidently while looking at him. Overtime, the boy with braces and eyeglasses on became a handsome grown up man and Daniella’s feelings became strong. She just smiled remembering the memory. It's a bittersweet feeling that those memories will be locked up away from her mind. A forbidden place to visit. She placed the paper on the table, holding a pen, her hand hovering over her name. Battling the feelings inside her like a storm. Divorcing him would be permanent and could mean he won't be her husband anymore. While, she knew her parents would surely disown her from the family, she don't want Peter to be trap in this marriage forever. So, in the blink of an eye, she fixed her signature on her name. A single tear escaped her eye, cascading through her cheeks like a river. She took a long breath—the courage she needed. I’m setting you free now, Peter.’ It took her the courage to finally say it. Karissa hug her, “It’s for the better,” They stayed in the embrace for one and two minutes before finally Karissa said. “Don’t worry Dani, you can stay at my place for as long as you want and we're going to help you find a suitable, well paying job in the city.” Daniella brows raised, " We?” " Oh, I got a friend who can help us.” She wiggles her brow. “Now, I'll be waiting outside. Just call me if you need anything, okay?” Daniella smiled, " Okay, thanks Riss, again.” Karissa waved her off and walked out the room. Leaving Daniella alone contemplating about what to do with the clothes. By the time Daniella finished packing her things it was already evening. She was compelled to order Missy to cook for Peter but reminded herself that she is getting divorce and that she didn't need to take care of him anymore. After deciding to keep the dress Peter bought in the closet and only packing the clothes she already had, she takes another one look on the room and left. “Missy give this to Peter tomorrow morning on his office, oh and while your their bring breakfast for him." She ordered while give the paper to Missy. The head maid was baffled upon seeing her Misses with her suitcase in hand. “Are you leaving ma’am?” She asked Seeing the confused look on the maid, Daniella replied. "Yes, I am.” "Please, keep on taking care of him for me. Okay Missy?” Daniella requested. Reminding herself that this might be her last request from her as the Misses of the house. The maid nodded and finally realized things. “May you be happy ma’am.” "Yes, thank you. And you as well.” Daniella stood in front of the house that she and Peter shared together. It was a wedding gift from his parents. She remembered clearly that her younger self was so happy to receive such a gift. A home that she and Peter will build a family. The wind kissed her cheeks and her hair danced while a faint smile appeared on her face. “May you find peace and true love, Peter. I love you always, my greatest lost love.” She said it out loud before finally leaving.
